Dan Levy urges viewers to vote after Emmys win: ‘I am so sorry for making this political’

It was the Schitt’s Creek sweep (or as Twitter crowned it, the Schitt’s Streak) on Sunday night as the Canadian-born television show won across all seven Comedy categories at the 72nd Primtetime Emmy Awards.

The show made history by being the first in 72 years to win all four major acting awards in its category, one of which was given to the show’s star and creator, Daniel Levy, for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Levy went up to accept the award for Outstanding Comedy Series alongside his father and co-star, Eugene Levy.

Before jumping into his usual humorous candor, the star took a moment to get serious before passing the mic to his father.

“Our show at its core is about the transformational effects of love and acceptance and that is something we need more of now than we’ve ever needed before,” Levy said. “I just want to say for any of you who have not registered, please do so. And then go out and vote because that is the only way that we are going to have love and acceptance out there. Please do that. I am so sorry for making this political, but I had to!”

He then gave his dad the stand and told him to continue on with “the fun stuff”, which included thanking the rest of the cast and an adorable father-son moment of admiration for one another.

Dan Levy plays David Rose in the acclaimed comedy show, a pansexual man who falls in love with a man, Patrick Brewer, in the small town of Schitt’s Creek where his family has been forced to relocate to after losing all their wealth and assets.

All seven of the awards the show won include Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series (Annie Murphy), Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series (Dan Levy), Directing For A Comedy Series (Andrew Cividino and Dan Levy), Outstanding Writing For A Comedy Series (Dan Levy), Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series (Eugene Levy) and Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series (Catherine O’Hara).
