When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married on May 19, 2018, it was one of the most memorable weddings of the year (if not the decade). While their marriage has included both ups and downs — including the highly celebrated birth of their son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, and their highly controversial exit from their roles as senior royals — the famous couple reached their second anniversary in May 2020, which was something that fans of the pair were eager to celebrate.
“Happy 2nd Anniversary to #DukeandDuchessofSussex #HarryandMeghan who are true global inspiration and testament of LOVE CAN CONQUER ALL. Thank you for that!!!!!!” one Twitter user wrote, including a row of heart emojis. Another added, “The way I ride for Harry and Meghan is how my mum rides for Princess Diana. Happy 2 year anniversary.”
For Harry and Meghan’s first anniversary, the two sent out a message to their social media followers via their (now unused) Instagram account. “Thank you for all of the love and support from so many of you around the world,” they wrote alongside a slideshow of photos from their wedding. “Each of you made this day even more meaningful.”
They also spent the occasion at Frogmore Cottage, according to Elle, which is where they were living at the time following the birth of their baby boy. While having a newborn around makes it seem clear why they would keep things rather chill for their first anniversary, it sounds like they opted for something just as simple for their second anniversary.
Meghan and Harry's anniversary plans include their son Archie
While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle certainly have the money and connections to arrange the kind celebration that most people can only dream of, it turns out that the two spent their second anniversary at home in Los Angeles — possibly because they’ve been forced into isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic or perhaps because it’s the perfectly simple (and simply perfect) way for the relatively low-key couple to mark the occasion.
Instead of dashing off for a quick trip to a tropical paradise or having an intimate dinner at a top-rate restaurant — or even working on their careers — Meghan and Harry are “enjoying a ‘lovely’ family moment with their one-year-old son, Archie Mountbatten Windsor,” according to a Harper’s Bazaar source who is close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The insider explained, “The day will simply be quality time with one another and as a family. They’re not going to be doing any work and made sure they have no meetings or calls in the diary.”
Sometimes having no plans is the best plan of all. And, for all we know, their simple “quality time” together behind closed doors could include something super secretive and wildly romantic.
