Kate Garraway shares emotional update as husband Derek remains in intensive care

Kate Garraway, 52, has dedicated her latest Instagram post to the NHS after taking part in the nation’s applause for carers this evening. The Good Morning Britain presenter admitted she felt “emotional” during the Clap For Carer’s event and shared a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and nurses who are looking after her husband Derek Draper, who remains in intensive care with coronavirus.

The television personality shared a video in view of her 678,000 Instagram followers which saw the star standing alongside her two children Darcey and William as they joined in with the applause.

She captioned the post: “Another emotional #clapthecarers & never has it been more needed.

“If this pandemic #lockdown is dragging on for us, imagine what it is like for them. Shift after endlessly long shift , bravely going to work, to battle the virus and give our loved ones a chance.

“None of those keeping my Derek alive have ever made me feel it’s a chore, they want to win this as much as I want them to, but it must be so hard.”

The journalist went on to issue an update about her other half’s condition.

She continued: “He is still critically ill in intensive care, but where there is life there is hope.

“Thank you #nhs from the bottom of my heart.”
