The case against Katie Price's alleged attacker could be dropped within a matter of days as she "cannot face" a court appearance.
Katie was rushed to hospital in the early hours of Monday 23 August with "facial injuries" after the alleged attack with a 32 year old man arrested on suspicion of assault, theft and coercive and controlling behaviour before being released on bail until 20 September.
And while the 43 year old "stands by" her accounts of what happened, she has reportedly claimed she is "too mentally fragile" to be interrogated about the incident further.
"She absolutely stands by her account of events of that night given to police, but upon reflection isn't sure she's mentally strong enough to go through yet another court appearance," a source told The Sun.
It was continued: "She doesn't want to be dragged through the mill, and her private life scrutinised by all and sundry. Katie doesn't see any other way out."
The source added that it was a "nightmare situation for Katie".
If the mother-of-five will not testify in court, it means that her alleged attacker could not face charges.
A police spokesman has said: "We have a duty of care to gather all evidence relating to this case, and our inquiries continue."
OK! has contacted a representative for Katie for further comment.
Meanwhile, new pictures have shown the full extent of Katie's injuries following the alleged attack at her Essex home.
Katie's face is seen bruised on the right side of her cheek, and her lip is damaged, too. Her eye also appears to be surrounded by a purple bruise.
Essex Police said in a statement after the incident: "We were called by colleagues in the ambulance service to reports of an assault shortly after 1.30 am this morning, Monday 23 August.
"We arrived and found a woman had sustained a facial injury which required hospital treatment.
"A man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of assault."
The star spoke out on the incident after being discharged from the hospital on Monday. "I've got a big bruise, my face is all puffy, and I went to hospital," she told the same publication.
"I'm still all dazed. I'm devastated. I've told police that I was assaulted and am in shock that this happened.
"I ran away after being punched – I ran to Harvey's house nearby and have now done damage to my feet, which I previously injured. I can't say any more."
