Martin Roberts, 57, jokingly asked a fan to keep a secret from his bosses at BBC after they identified that each Homes Under The Hammer episode could potentially be over in 15 minutes. The realisation hit the presenter like a tonne of bricks as he responded with a humorous reply.
Shhh, don’t tell the bosses because I’m paid by the minute
It comes after he advertised his latest Twitter Q&A session, when the question was put to him by an avid watcher of the long-running show.
“Hi Martin – Could every episode of Homes under the Hammer be over in 15 mins if they didn’t go over the same ground a lot in the same episode?” they asked.
After having a think, Martin sheepishly replied: “Shhh, don’t tell the bosses,” before jokingly adding: “I’m paid by the minute.”
The witticism got a fair few likes from his followers who also enjoyed the light-hearted joke.
Homes Under The Hammer airs for an hour every week day, as the presenters show viewers around a buyers’ potential home.
But while Martin was having his fun online, Monday was a rather solemn day for the Roberts family as he revealed the family dog Rolo, has been forced to go back to the veterinary surgery for an overnight stay.
The presenter resides at his home with his wife Kirsty Roberts and the couple’s two children, daughter Megan and son Scott, who were all overcome with worry.
The 57-year-old reacted to a social media user after they quizzed the presenter about his pet pooch.
The person in question penned: “How’s Rolo #AskMartinMonday.”
Martin had previously revealed that Rolo had fallen ill, going onto explain that their beloved pet has to remain at the vet where he is currently being treated.
He replied: “He’s gone back to the vets for an overnight stay to give him some intravenous medicine and hydration, but I’m worried sick.”
Another social media user also reacted to the news of his pet.
They queried: “Good morning Martin. Sorry to hear your doggy is poorly. I saw you on Pointless on Saturday. You actually got through to round 2! Would you go on Beat the Chasers or the Chase? And would you do Strictly Come Dancing? #AskMartinMonday.”
The presenter responded: “I’ve already done The Chase and yes I’d love to do Strictly. PS Rolo is still very poorly and is currently overnight at the vet’s, so I hope he gets better.”
His heartfelt post comes months after the BBC star announced that their other dog had sadly died at the age of 14.
In August, his Golden Retriever Mylo had to be put to sleep after the pup suffered two strokes.
Martin paid a touching tribute to his pet on Twitter at the time – admitting to followers that he is “heartbroken”.
He wrote: “Such an unbearably sad day. Mylo, my 14-year-old Golden Retriever has recently suffered two strokes, and on the advice of the vet he’s just been put to sleep.
“If you’ve ever lost a pet you’ll know how I feel right now. Heartbroken”.
The property expert added: “Rest in peace, my faithful friend.”
Homes Under The Hammer airs weekdays at 10am on BBC One.
