Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may remain in the US for the foreseeable future after the royal couple scrapped plans for a UK charity.

The royal couple, who recently celebrated their third anniversary, have decided to shut down their charity formally known as Sussex Royal less than a year after they launched the project.

The pair filed an application to liquidate the charity on Tuesday in an effort to put their energy into the Archewell Foundation, according to filings on Companies House.

Following their decision to step back from royal duties and move their family over to California, both Harry and Meghan have settled into American life in their £11 million mansion.

This comes ahead of the unveiling of the statue in honour of his late mother Diana, Princess of Wales, to mark what would have been her 60th birthday.

Currently the Duke of Sussex is set to return for the memorial on July 1 as her statue is placed as the centrepiece in the gardens of Kensington Palace where she enjoyed spending time with Will and Harry in their youth.

Harry and his brother Prince William commissioned the statue together in 2017, however since the relationship between the brothers has broken down following the release of Harry and Meghan’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Following the “cold shoulder” Harry received when he returned to the UK for his grandfather’s funeral, it is now unsure as to whether Harry will return for the special occasion, reports say.

According to Radar, Prince Harry was “rattled” by the negative reception he received both from the Royal Family and from the media during his short stay at Windsor which could suggest he may not make the trip back for the unveiling.

An insider claimed: “It is very possible that Harry does not return to the UK for the event. The cold shoulder Harry received at Prince Philip’s funeral is not helping.

“Harry was rattled not only by his family’s reaction but also by the negative media coverage he received during his short stay.

“Now he may bow out of the upcoming trip altogether.”
