“Judy” actress Renée Zellweger stunned everyone at the Oscars as she presented the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Wearing a jaw-dropping custom Giorgio Armani Privé strapless gown in petal pink, the 51-year-old actress paid tribute to each of the nominees in the sweetest way (via People). We’re still not over the short speeches she made about each of the nominated actresses, and it’s clear fans on Twitter were just as impressed.
Before Zellweger presented the award to “Nomadland” actress Frances McDormand, she chose to talk about each of the nominees’ special performances. The gorgeous “Bridget Jones” actress started off with “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” icon Viola Davis, calling her “luminous,” before switching over to Andra Day for her role in “The United States vs. Billie Holiday.” Saying it is “hard to believe” the movie was her first major film role, she described how Day “seamlessly embodied the icon” while the 36-year-old double-threat held back tears.
Zellweger then went on to give her praise to “Pieces of a Woman” actress Vanessa Kirby for her “fearless and vulnerable performance,” also saying we “needed” Frances McDormand’s role in “Nomadland” that had “charisma and endearing transparency.” Finishing off with Carey Mulligan and her role in “Promising Young Woman,” calling the performance “painful, witty, and powerful,” it’s clear Zellweger is an icon who loves to celebrate her peers — and fans love her for it.
Fans loved Zellweger's Oscars appearance
In response to Renée Zellweger’s sweet tributes to each of the Best Actress nominees, fans on Twitter sang their praises for the “Chicago” legend. One user wrote, “Renée Zellweger looking simply gorgeous and elegant at The Oscars!!! She spoke in such a lovely manner about all the actresses nominees! Super classy as always!” While another said it all with, “I will always and forever stan Renee Zellweger. You are a beautiful Queen and a solid, damn fine actor! We’re not worthy.” We just have to say — “Yes” to all of the above!
Other fans compared Zellweger’s presenting style to her peer Joaquin Phoenix, who presented the award for Best Actor right after. Although the “Joker” actor is known to be straightforward to a fault, it’s safe to say fans weren’t having it after Zellweger’s touching speech. One Twitter user wrote, “I’m still mad that Renee Zellweger took the time to say something lovely about each of the nominees and Joaquin Phoenix didn’t even bother.” Another agreed, writing, “So we now know that Renee Zellweger watched all of the Best Actress performances and commented on them. Joaquin phoenix watched his own.” Ouch!
