Strictlys Zara McDermott speaks out after boyfriend let slip her first dance

Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott get competitive

Former Made in Chelsea star Sam Thompson had some thinking he had accidentally let slip what Zara McDermott’s first dance on Strictly would be ahead of the competition starting next month.

He made a comment about “waltzing” around the kitchen, despite struggling with that type of dance – but now Zara has denied any suggestion that she knows her first dance.

Taking to Instagram, the former Love Island beauty answered a question from a fan, who excitedly quizzed: “Do you know who you will be paired up with?”

The 26-year-old replied, in view of almost three million followers: “So many of you asking this. We actually don’t know yet… we know just about as much as you guys.

“Your guess is as good as mine! We don’t know what dances we are doing yet either, that will come later after we find out our partners.”

Increasing the sense of anticipation, she added: “We will find out in the next couple of weeks!”

Her admission suggests that even if she’d been practising her waltzing with beau Sam, it doesn’t necessarily mean the waltz will feature in her debut on the dancefloor.

However, the 31-year-old had told his listeners: “I’ve been dancing a lot in my household – the prep is real at our gaff.

“I genuinely think I’ve waltzed around the kitchen with Zara about 50 times right now and I don’t even know how to waltz!”

Sam jokingly continued that he could see himself forced to “stand outside” without a ticket to watch his girlfriend perform, as the tickets could be snapped up by her parents.

“She only gets two tickets to go to the live shows and she’s already told me that she wants her parents to go to the majority of them!” he stated on his show.

However, he made it clear nothing can deter him, quipping: “I guess I’ll be standing outside – but I don’t care, I will be there.”

Meanwhile, Zara also gave fans an insight into how she will stay motivated as the competition approaches.

Attaching a page about “the downward spiral of low mood”, she wrote: “I try not to get stuck in this cycle.

“I also write a gratitude list every morning, whether it’s in my notes or in my head.

“And when it all gets too much, someone I love is only a phone call away! A problem shared is a problem halved,” she declared.

She brought up the topic after a fan asked her how she copes with having a full schedule and getting “overwhelmed”.

Strictly Come Dancing, featuring Zara and a host of other celebrities, begins its 21st series on September 23.
