Pamela Laird, 30, who runs a cosmetic brand, rose to fame when she appeared on Lord Sugar’s The Apprentice last year. The candidate has opened up about a challenging moment on the BBC programme, in which business executive Karren Brady, 51, attempted to resolve an issue.
Lord Sugar is joined by his business assistants Karen and Claude Littner in the boardroom on the BBC show.
The pair oversee The Apprentice hopefuls, who are put through their paces as they navigate through various entrepreneurial tasks.
Pamela recalled a time on the programme when Karren jumped in to “help”, despite the business executive being “distant” from the candidates.
The Irish beauty guru explained: “Karren and Claude are very good at being distant.
“They kind of have a bit of a character and are there with us, so often they don’t want you to become comfortable with them there. So you don’t interact really.”
However, Pamela dished on a particular moment the West Ham United Vice-Chairman came to the candidates’ rescue.
“We were doing the ice lolly task and the rules of the task was that we had to give receipts to everybody and write our own copy,” she recalled.
“We were selling them so quickly that we didn’t have time.”
Pamela continued: “Karren actually took the receipt book and started writing them out.
“[She] showed her actual personality. She’s like, ‘No, I’ll help them. This needs to be done.'”
She added: “Production rules count the ice lolly sales so it had to be done. But it wasn’t necessarily happening on camera so Karren was able to help us.”
The Dubliner admitted that both Claude and Karren often help the candidates off-screen, but added they are both quite “stern”.

“They definitely do help [behind the scenes] but they don’t have a chat or a bit of a laugh,” Pamela said: “They’re definitely very stern.”
The cosmetics entrepreneur also recalled the moment Claude gave the team words of encouragement before the final.
Pamela remarked: “In the final task when I was helping Carina with her commercial, Claude leaned over when the cameras were changing and said to us as a team, ‘That’s really, really good.’
“So when it came to the end he softened a little a bit and showed his kind side.”
The Dubliner made it to the final three, before just missing out on the final to Scarlett Allen-Horton and Carina Lepore.
Since Pamela’s stint on The Apprentice, she has continued to expand her Moxi Loves beauty empire with her skincare range being stocked in Boots UK in-store and online.
Discussing the beauty brand, the entrepreneur said: “Beauty is such a huge space and there is so much that you can do.
“As my passion’s evolve and the industry changes and demand changes – my core products are constantly being added to. We will definitely continue to expand into other areas.”
