We all know Sharon Marshall for her weekly soap updates on This Morning and the amazing work she does as a script writer for Emmerdale. However, only a few people get to be up close and personal with her.

To mark her 50th birthday, Sharon decided to open up about her life in a rare interview with OK!. In it, she revealed how the "gorgeous" Alison Hammond offered to be her surrogate amid a gruelling fertility struggle.

The star revealed that she "confided" in Alison while she and husband Paul Fletcher were trying to conceive their first child.

"She offered to be my surrogate, bless her. She’s just so gorgeous," Sharon told us. "She has the most beautiful soul, to offer to do that for me. The one thing I miss in Covid times is my Alison hugs!"

Sharon explained how she also opened up to Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden and fashion guru Gok Wan.

"There was one day, just after I’d had a miscarriage, and there was an item on the show about the most beautiful babies in Britain," she said. "I had a massive breakdown and confided in Amanda Holden and Gok Wan who were hosting that day.

"They were so lovely and Amanda told me to go and get counselling, which I did. I got the loveliest message from her when I got pregnant."

Betsey joined Sharon for the exclusive photo shoot and it was clear to everyone that the little girl is the apple of her mum's eye.

When asked how she felt once Betsey was finally in her arms, Sharon called it "pure happiness."

"We were just staring at her," she recalled. "It was truly a miracle. She was built on science and a little bit of magic. We were instantly besotted."

When we asked Sharon what was on her birthday wish list, she explained: "I’m rich – not financially after IVF! – but in the sense that I have a wonderful group of friends and my This Morning team. And I finally have my family and we have our daughter.

"That’s my perfect present. I want that, not diamonds."
