Pretty much every prominent male character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the last decade or so has been played by an actor who underwent a rigorous physical transformation. Chris Evans as Captain America. Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Chris Pratt as Star-Lord. Even guys playing leaner heroes, like Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, had intense training regimes to prepare themselves for an intense, stunt-filled shooting schedule—and for that obligatory shirtless scene which tends to crop up from time to time.
One rare exception to the rule has been Loki, the Asgardian trickster played by Tom Hiddleston since 2011’s Thor. While Loki’s adoptive brother Thor was known to bare his godlike physique in those movies, the God of Mischief was more likely to garner attention for his over-the-top outfits and illusions. Until now.
In a new teaser trailer for the upcoming Loki miniseries on Disney+, Hiddleston is stripped naked (much to his character’s chagrin) while being processed by the TVA, a sort of time travel investigation bureau. And it turns out, Loki was working out in secret all along. As was perhaps to be expected for Loki’s first solo adventure in the MCU, it seems Hiddleston followed in the footsteps of the Chrises and built some muscle.
The teaser shows Miss Minutes, an animated clock, providing exposition about the TVA while Loki is removed from his usual Goth getup and put in a much less flattering uniform. The series follows a slightly younger version of Loki (you know, the one who escaped with the Tesseract during the time heist in Avengers: Endgame) as he is put to work by the TVA in fixing some of the hiccups he caused in the spacetime continuum with his cosmic scheming.
