One of the Met Gala’s biggest queens won’t be there to blow our minds with her amazing outfits for the second year in a row, and unfortunately for us, it’s Zendaya.
The fashion icon shocked fans and Met Gala followers alike when she revealed she won’t attend fashion’ big night out for the second year in a row. While we try to pick our jaws up from the floor over, Zendaya pointed out that she actually has a very good reason to RSVP no.
“I’m gonna disappoint my fans here, but I will be working. Your girl’s gotta work and make some movies,” she told Extra. “I wish everyone the best. I will be playing tennis.”

While many fans are probably thinking that she’ll be working on the Dune sequel (which will feature Zendaya for more than 7 minutes, TG), her tennis comment actually confirms she’ll be working on Challengers, which is being directed by Luca Guadagnino who won the Academy Award for Call Me By Your Name. The film was originally announced back in February 2022 and will also star The Crown star Josh O’Connor and West Side Story‘s Mike Faist.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Tashi [aka Zendaya], a tennis player turned coach, has taken her husband, Art, and transformed him from a mediocre player into a world-famous grand slam champion. To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, she makes him play a ‘Challenger’ event—close to the lowest level of tournament on the pro tour—where he finds himself standing across the net from the once-promising, now burnt-out Patrick: his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend.”
But don’t count Zendaya out for next year’s Met Gala just yet. Zendaya confirmed she’ll be back when she’s not so booked and busy. At least we’ll catch her on the big screen very soon!
