Boris Johnson baby: How many prime ministers have had babies while in office?

Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds, who are engaged, were very happy to announce the birth of their son. In a statement, a spokesperson said: “The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds are thrilled to announce the birth of a healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning. Both mother and baby are doing very well. The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team.”

How many prime ministers have had babies while in office?

Few British prime ministers have had a baby while in office, albeit it seems to be more common in recent years.

David Cameron’s wife, Samantha, gave birth to their daughter Florence, in 2010 while Mr Cameron was in office.

Former Labour leader and Prime Minister Tony Blair also welcomed the arrival of a child in 2006 when his wife Cherie gave birth to their son Leo.

Before that, Frances, the wife of John Russell, a 19th-century Whig pound Liberal politician, gave birth to two children in 1848 and 1849 – both while he was still in office.
