Hundreds of social media users left comments below the video, thanking Ms Caserta for sharing the tip. The video has accumulated over 37,000 likes

The video has accumulated over 37,000 likes and 8,200 comments as Ms Caserta showed how she uses coffee to repel the unwanted visitors.

And the best part of it is – depending on the kind of coffee you drink – you can get it for as cheap as £1.60 in Waitrose.

That’s even cheaper than Tesco Max Strength Insect Repellent Spray, which costs £4.20 for a 125ml bottle.

In explaining the method, the TikToker showed a part of her garden, where she scantily sprinkled grounds of the joe over her garden.

She said: ‘Bugs and mosquitos hate the smell of coffee.

‘So I am going to sprinkle it around the outside of my house. Guess what? It smells great.’

Insects tend to dislike coffee grounds because of the strong smell – and this makes it a super efficient way to keep pests out of your garden.

However, homeowners need to be aware that coffee grounds are acidic, which while it can be good to prevent weeds from growing, it can damage other plants.

Therefore, it is important to make sure that coffee grounds are not overwhelming your soil.

It is also super important to know that this hack is not advisable for pet owners.

Homeowners need to be aware that coffee grounds are acidic. Therefore, it is important to make sure that coffee grounds are not overwhelming your soil

This is because coffee beans, grounds and brewed coffee are very dangerous and toxic to cats and dogs. Caffeine, a methylxanthine, can cause toxicosis when ingested by pets.

One TikTok user said they will be trying this hack out, saying: ‘Thanks guys I will try cause we have the worst mosquitoes around my house and bees I need tips on them too.’

And another chimed in saying: ‘Oh shoot ok I’m gonna do this.’

A third wrote: ‘Boomer here, and I just learned something new. Thank you, I am going to try this.’

Meanwhile, one person was left in complete disbelief that this works, as they wrote: ‘Really!!? This is awesome.’

One user also commented: ‘What!? No way?’

And another put: ‘Coffee has so many benefits also helps absorb chemical smells or bad odors in general.’

While another person jokingly wrote: ‘That’s why we’re always out of coffee at home.’

But one person said that while this hack is great, you need to re-apply the grounds frequently – especially when it rains.

They wrote: ‘And when it rains it washes away and you have to do it again. Been trying this for Black ants earing my potted flowers, so frustrating.’

And others have been left questioning whether this trick works well for getting rid of ants too, as people on TikTok recommended you should ‘use cinnamon’ instead.

This is because ants have a sensitive sense of smell and the cinnamon will overwhelm them, therefore repelling them from desired areas.

However, cinnamon is only used as an ant repellant, not as an ant killer, as the spice can only do so much to control the infestation.
