Chrissy Teigen has had a serious fall from grace in the last few weeks. Once America’s sweetheart, all it took was a few of her old tweets to remove that title. Teigen rose to fame partially because of how funny she was on Twitter. But now some of those old jokes have come back to haunt her.
Chrissy Teigen’s tweets
In early May, some of Teigen’s tweets from 2011 resurfaced. In the tweets, Teigen told Courtney Stodden to take a “dirt nap” and made fun of Lindsay Lohan for self-harming, saying “Lindsay adds a few more slits to her wrists when she sees Emma Stone.”
Since the tweets have come out, Teigen has experienced not only backlash from fans, but professional repercussions as well. Her Cravings cookware line has already been pulled from Macy’s.
Today, in a lengthy note, Teigen apologized for her past actions. She opened by acknowledging that she had been silent for a while and said that “not a single moment” has passed where she hasn’t felt regret for what she said.
“I’ve apologized publicly to one person, but there are others — and more than just a few — who I need to say I’m sorry to,” she wrote. “I’m in the process of privately reaching out to the people I insulted. It’s like my own version of that show My Name is Earl! I understand that they may not want to speak to me. I don’t think I’d like to speak to me. (The real truth in all of this is how much I actually cannot take confrontation.) But if they do, I am here and I will listen to what they have to say, while apologizing through sobs.
She continued, owning up to her bad behavior.
Teigen went on to explain some of the reasoning behind her bad behavior. She revealed that when she first joined Twitter, she used the platform as a place to impress strangers.
Chrissy Teigen is a different person
Teigen’s note went on to outline the ways in which she is no longer the person who wrote such cruel things.
“The truth is, I’m no longer the person who wrote those horrible things,” she continued. “I grew up, got therapy, got married, had kids, got more therapy, experienced loss and pain, got more therapy and experienced more life. AND GOT MORE THERAPY.
She closed, not by asking for forgiveness, as many stars do when they land in hot water but by simply thanking her fans for reading.
