Currys PC World customers furious after hundreds of pounds wiped from gift cards after website glitch on Black Friday

CURRYS PC World customers have been left furious after hundreds of pounds were wiped from gift cards following a website glitch on Black Friday.

Shoppers were left out of pocket after their orders failed, but their gift card credit taken, following a “temporary outage” on the Currys website.

Currys says all customers who were affected will have their funds restored, but it hasn’t said how long this will take.

The problem, which was first reported by MoneySavingExpert, appears to have only affected shoppers making a transaction with a gift card.

We've asked Currys if any customers paying with a debit or credit card were affected too and we'll update this article when we know more.

The Sun is also checking if the issue has been resolved and if shoppers can pay with gift cards once again.

Complaining to Currys on Twitter, one customer said they'd lost £900 on their gift card after trying to buy a laptop.

They said: "Highly disappointed! Attempted to purchase a Black Friday laptop with voucher card purchased through work… no laptop. £900 deducted on the gift card.

"In addition, wasted the afternoon attempting to resolve the issue with currently no luck!"

Another said: "Still no clarity on the gift card issue. Your phone lines are still closed! When do I get my £200 back!"

A third said: "Worst experience dealing with you and your 'dont know how' team tbh.

"You took my gift card credit and now i cannot use it on Black Friday deal."

A fourth commented: "Very disappointed Currys. My £128 gift card wiped and no order confirmed.

"This was presents for Xmas for my parents and for their new grandchild so can spend Xmas digitally. No indication when the money will be returned absolute shambles, please help."

It’s unclear how long the issue lasted for, or if it has been resolved.

The Sun is also checking how many shoppers were affected, and if Currys will issue refunds to existing gift cards, or send out new ones.

Currys has apologised to customers and said the problem was caused by “unprecedented volume of customers” accessing its website.

A Currys PC World spokesperson said: “Due to the unprecedented volume of customers shopping online with Currys PC World this Black Friday, our website experienced a temporary outage.

“Unfortunately transactions being made by gift cards were affected.

“We will ensure that every customer affected by this issue has funds put back onto their gift cards in full, as soon as possible.”

Currys wasn't the only retailer to experience issues on Black Friday as customers queued to get on Boots and Cult Beauty websites.
