Ex-darts world champ John ‘Boy’ Walton works at Co-op as 58-year-old poses for pic in canned fish aisle – The Sun

EX-DARTS WORLD CHAMPION John 'Boy' Walton now works at a Co-op in Sheffield.

Walton, 58, has not competed at a BDO event since 2018 but did participate in the first round of the Remote Darts League in April.

And yesterday he was spotted stacking shelves by the BBC's Dan Walker, who took to Twitter to share a picture of the encounter.

Walker tweeted: "What a treat to bump into 2001 darts World Champion John 'Boy' Walton at our local @coop_food in Sheffield.

"Lovely chat in the home baking and canned fish aisle."

Walton appeared to enjoy the recognition as he pulled a dart-throwing pose for the snap.

Several darts-themed puns from fans on Twitter followed.

"Expect he would go single cream then double cream," said one.

"Then pay at the checkout," tweeted another.

Bradford-born Walton is best known for winning the 2001 BDO World Darts Championship after a 6-2 win over Ted Hankey at the Lakeside Country Club.

He also triumphed at both the British Classic and British Open that year.

Prior to that, John Boy was victorious at the 2000 World Masters event, beating Mervyn King 3-2 in the final.

But his return to the sport did not go swimmingly, with no wins, two draws and seven losses in nine matches as he finished second from bottom in the first stage of the RDL.
