Gerrit Cole mum on alleged ‘sticky’ text in ex-Angels employee’s lawsuit

An alleged 2019 text message from Gerrit Cole was included as evidence by a former Angels clubhouse attendant earlier this month in an attempt to prove the attendant was scapegoated and fired for supplying sticky substances to pitchers to illegally doctor baseballs.

On Jan. 7 in Orange County, Calif. Superior Court, lawyers for Brian (Bubba) Harkins included this alleged message from Cole dated Jan. 17, 2019: “Hey Bubba, it’s Gerrit Cole. I was wondering if you could help me out with this sticky situation [an emoji of a winking face]. We don’t see you until May, but we have some road games in April that are in cold weather places. The stuff I had last year seizes up when it gets cold.”

Asked if he wanted to comment on his presence in a lawsuit that was filed by Harkins against the Angels and MLB in late August, Cole said, “It’s an ongoing legal issue and I am not comfortable talking about it now.”
