As the lockdown continues due to the coronavirus outbreak, many fast food chains are starting to reopen their doors for food deliveries around the country. McDonald’s has been one of the slowest to start its reopening plans, but the company has now revealed it will be back up and running on May 13. However, breakfasts are officially off the menu.

McDonald’s plans to reopen & tells staff PPE testing starts this week
Revealing the reopening plans on Friday, CEO Paul Pomroy shared a statement on the brand’s website outlining the measures the chain would be taking in order to keep customers and staff safe.
As well as trialling in-store changes such as perspex screens and personal protective equipment for all staff including non-medical grade masks, the chain is adapting its menu to help teams cope.
That means no McDonald’s breakfasts will be available to customers when the stores reopen next week.
In the statement, Pomroy said: “We will return with much smaller teams in our restaurants and as a result will be returning with a limited menu. This will support social distancing in our kitchens, whilst still providing many McDonald’s iconic menu items.”

The chief added: “To reduce the complexities in our kitchens at menu changeover, we will temporarily not be serving breakfast. As we reopen we will explore the ways in which to help our employees safely change over menus and we will reintroduce our breakfast menu as soon as we can.”
While fans will be disappointed they won’t be able to get their McMuffin when the chain reopens, the limited menu still includes favourites such as the Big Mac, McChicken Sandwich and Chicken McNuggets.
Three Happy Meal options will be available to order too, which will be welcome news to parents who are currently homeschooling their kids in the lockdown.
The new plan will see 15 restaurants reopening for delivery only next week, with customers ordering through partner apps UberEats and Deliveroo.

Making the point that the brand had “deliberately” taken its time over the reopening strategy in order to get it right, Pomroy said they had been in talks with staff and that employees will come back to work only if it’s the right decision for their personal circumstances.
Pomroy commented: “This week we have been running controlled tests to explore the safest way to reopen our restaurants. To give us all confidence in the new operational measures we are introducing to keep you and our employees safe, we asked our employees for their thoughts, have incorporated much of their feedback and will continue to listen and learn.
“The tests have proven successful and I will outline the ways in which we will slowly, but safely, begin to resume serving McDonald’s customers again.”
The full list of restaurants to reopen will be revealed this week, and the fast food chain boss says they’ll all be deep cleaned before they start serving again in order to reduce the risk.
