My girlfriend is turning into a slob and it is making me question our future

DEAR DEIDRE: I AM ready to settle down and have children – and there is definite chemistry with a girl I am seeing. But she is so different from me.

She eats junk food, drinks loads and does not exercise.

I’m a guy of 34 and she is 32. She’s not remotely my type and I didn’t fancy her at first but we are so comfortable with one another.

I never get a spark on dates but I’ve realised I have feelings for this girl.

We flirt, play fight and she’s told me she is “crazy in love” with me.

But she has such bad habits whereas I am into healthy eating.

I am a photographer and well-groomed. I regularly work out and run but her idea of exercise is walking to the nearest pub or takeaway.

She looks like a slob next to me and I would hate to think what my friends would say about her.

She also watches a lot of rubbish on TV – including soaps, which I despise – and spends hours binge-watching on Netflix.

I genuinely feel like I’m falling for her but am scared to go for it.

DEIDRE SAYS: Maybe you feel comfortable and there’s a spark with this girl just because you can relax your high standards with her.

She is in no position to judge you over anything.

But settling down and having children with her would bring all those differences to the fore.

You will want your children to eat well and exercise, not slob out in front of a screen.

She says she’s crazy in love with you, so ask whether she really is willing to transform her lifestyle for your sake.

Even if she says yes, wait until promises become action before you commit.
