BRITAIN AT WAR IN COLOUR by Ian Carter (Imperial War Museum £25)
During World War II, colour photography, due to its expense, was largely reserved for official photographers working for the Armed Forces.
This collection of those rare images, courtesy of the Imperial War Museum, highlights all sides of wartime life, from the then Princess Elizabeth during her time in the ATS to these rosy-cheeked evacuees (pictured) with a nurse in North Devon.
For those who didn’t live through it, this war is often experienced in black and white, but this remarkable book brings it into vivid technicolour.
