Follow all the action as The Masters gets underway at Augusta National, with Tiger Woods and Bryson DeChambeau among the early starters in a packed field.
It is the first time the tournament has been staged in November, with the soft ground and weather threatening to play havoc, but the most recognisable contenders remain the same. DeChambeau’s astonishing distance, which helped him to victory at the US Open in June, has struck fear into the hearts of Augusta’s membership that he may blitz the course in the same manner that Woods did so famously in 1997.
Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy is attempting to complete his career Grand Slam and has been phenomenal in practice, while Brooks Koepka has shown glimpses of recapturing the unstoppable form that saw him win four majors in the space of three years. Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm are also among the favourites in what promises to be a thrilling four days.

THE MASTERS 2020 GETS UNDERWAY AT AUGUSTA
Welcome to The Independent’s coverage of a unique autumn Masters tournament in Augusta, Georgia. The most anticipated event in the golfing calendar survived the coronavirus pandemic by moving to November for the first time in its history, and will provide a very different challenge this year with the ground softer and the weather threatening.
Tiger Woods will defend the Green Jacket after such a momentous victory last April, but even the 15-time major champion is flying somewhat under the radar when compared to golf’s polarising new pioneer, Bryson DeChambeau. The US Open champion’s newfound distance has been the talk of Augusta this week, and many have predicted a dismantling of one of golf’s most treasured courses. The pair are both among the early starters this afternoon and we’ll bring you live coverage of all the action.
