These six mantras are designed to help you have a positive mindset

SUN BINGO has some great mantras that you can try at home or on the go. Each focuses on positivity, self-love and the good things you have in your life.

This Feel Good Friday is inspired by World Meditation Day, which is on 21st May.

Meditation comes from Buddhism, which teaches that meditation is a way to spiritual enlightenment.

Over the past few decades, meditation has become increasingly popular in the West.

The great benefits of meditation can include helping with anxiety, stress, attention issues, sleep, reducing blood pressure and even easing pain.

You’re in good company if you like to meditate, as it was used by England’s men’s football team during Euro 2020.

Plus, loads of celebrities also swear by meditation, including Paul McCartney, Madonna, Hugh Jackman and Olivia Newton-John.

Types of meditation

The different styles of meditation include mindfulness, movement, visualisation and mantra.

You’ve probably heard of the term “mindfulness”. Basically, it’s a type of meditation that involves sitting still and focusing on the feelings and sensations you have in that moment.

That can be awareness of your breathing, how you’re feeling or even just the feeling of the floor or chair against your feet and legs.

When you think of meditation, you probably imagine someone sat very still.

However, movement meditation wants you to be on the go. It’s good to do during activities like moving around the house or as you walk the dog.

It’s about focusing on calm and purposeful movement and breaths, how they feel and how your body is responding to it.

If you’re someone who’s good at picturing things in your head, you might like visualisation.

You focus on an image that brings up a strong positive emotion. For instance, it could be someone you love or a place where you have a lot of happy memories.

Once you have that image, concentrate on those happy feelings.

Ever been doing something scary and thought “I can do this” over and over again?

That’s like a mantra. You repeat a phrase and focus on the words, how they sound and their rhythm.

Positive affirmations

This Feel Good Friday, Sun Bingo has rounded up six positive mantras that can help to affirm a happy mindset.

They come from Tanaaz Chubb’s My Pocket Mantras. Try to chant the mantras three times, either out loud or silently:

  • Today I feel energised and invigorated by life.
  • I am perfect just the way I am.
  • Every day I grow stronger in new ways.
  • I choose to feel good about myself every day.
  • I welcome health and happiness into my life.
  • I believe in myself.

Are there any phrases that you use to help you get through a hard time or to energise yourself? We’d love to know!
