Transform your backyard into an outdoor living room with our top tips

GET ready for warmer days ahead by transforming your backyard into an outdoor living room.

The trend has seen soaring sales of garden sofas, rugs, heaters and pergola shelters. Here’s how to do it on the cheap . . .

SHELTER YOUR CASH: Demand for pergolas and gazebos — basically a roof on posts — is rising as families look for ways to stay outside in all weathers.

Permanent ones cost hundreds of pounds, with Wickes’ cheapest option £335, but portable ones do the same job.

Plus they can be taken down if you want to use the space for other things. Argos has one for £35.

FIRE SALE: Firepits have been all the rage since Love Island and basic ones cost around £45 at Argos.

To go cheaper, look for camping versions, such as Dunelm’s steel model for £28. Or the UCO mini flatpack firepit and barbecue is £28.99 on Amazon.

OLD IS GOLD: It’s a great time to get your garden furniture sorted with lots of deals and sales.

Idealo website is good for hunting bargains as you can filter your searches by price, for example, if you want a garden chair for less than £10.

But before splashing out, check second-hand sites such as Gumtree, Freecycle and Facebook Marketplace for ones going for free or for as little as £35 for a table and chairs.
