A nurse was left distressed by a family photograph which appeared to play host to a ghost looking like a Carry On film star.

Melanie Armstrong was stumped when she saw photos from a walk she and her loved ones took along the River Frome in Woodsford, Dorset. The images appear to be haunted by a ghost who is the spitting image of Kenneth Williams.

The Welsh actor, who died in 1988 and starred in 26 of 31 Carry On films, appeared to crop up in images of Ms Armstrong, 44, who was photographed with husband Adam Armstrong, 39. Family dog Willow allegedly had some strange experiences at the site of the photo.

Now, senior healthcare assistant Melanie has said her four-year-old dog began howling uncontrollably as they walked past the spot of the claimed ghostly sighting. Her partner, respiratory nurse specialist Adam, says two figures were seen holding a bird of prey in the distance.

Melanie, from Dorchester, Dorset, said: "I can see a shadow, it looked like a lady at first, and then a face when you zoom in. I can see a face the eyes and the cheekbones, nose and chin. It looks like a spirit to me.

"A few people I've shown it to think it looks like a spirit too and suggested it could have been a lady who drowned in the river. I can see a face – the eyes and the cheekbones, nose and chin. It has an open, pouting mouth and looks like Kenneth Williams from the Carry on Films, it's uncanny.

"My dad used to watch the Carry On Films, I used to be a fan of them too. This is the first spiritual thing I've captured on camera, that's why I was shocked about it. It was coming up to midnight when I decided to have a look at the pictures. I was like 'oh my God'."

The couple has since returned to the site of the alleged sighting a number of times to see if their dog would react differently. Each time they pass the spot, Willow has "started howling like a wolf."

Melanie added: "It was almost a warning sign that something was coming. Then all of a sudden out of my left ear I could hear some horses' hooves clopping really fast like they were galloping. It lasted about 10 seconds, it was very loud in my left ear, they were very fast. It was very odd, it wasn't right."

Adam, who says he saw two figures off in the distance clutching birds of prey, added: "This is very out of character and odd behaviour for Willow that she usually only does when she sees something unfamiliar. After it all it was clear Mel couldn't see any figures and when I looked around again they were gone."
