Woman’s topless workout clips go viral – but says their success proves problem

A fitness influencer has become a viral sensation for working out topless on TikTok and Instagram – and says they have an important message behind them.

Sarah Anne, who hails from Los Angeles, US, has attracted thousands of followers to her social media pages thanks to her motivational fitness videos.

But when she recently shared a clip of her performing a pull up without a top on, it exploded online.

More than 9 million people watched the initial video, filmed in front of a mirror and posted on September 21.

She then shared two other clips which raked in the views and even kickstarted a viral trend for other women to do the same.

But, in an exclusive interview with Daily Star Online, the 21-year-old explained that the very success of the videos highlights a problem within the fitness world.

“Basically, this conversation shouldn’t exist,” she said. “It shouldn’t be a big deal.

“If one gender is allowed to work out topless, the other gender should.

“The point is equality, the point is it’s a traditional male movement, not a lot of girls do pull-ups for whatever reason and it’s making a statement – I’m a girl, I’m doing pull-ups and I’m doing this without a shirt on.

“If any guy was doing this video not a shot would it go viral and that’s the problem there.”

Sarah admitted she “actually cried” when other girls starting doing the same videos and tagging her in it.

But she was also met with vile trolls. “I had to remind myself that this equality movement is way bigger than me and I’m a very small part of it, so the negativity doesn’t really bother me,” she said.

The social media star hopes to see gym culture be “less male-dominated” in the future.

“You are what you believe and when society tells you that you’re the weaker one, you choose to believe it,” Sarah added.

“I’m nothing special, I’m just a girl who doesn’t care what anyone thinks and does her thing and therefore I was able to be strong and build muscle. You can’t let society stop you from doing things.”

It comes after another fitness fan was left shocked after claiming she was ordered to leave the gym unless she put a shirt on.

Julia Maren was working out in a cropped exercise vest when she claims she had to cover up without any explanation.

In a furious post on Instagram, she blasted the “double standards” after a man was showing his “whole nipple” in the same gym.
