'Counting On': People Think Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo Can't Afford to Buy a House in California

A recent Instagram post has some Counting On fans questioning whether Jinger Duggar can really afford her California lifestyle. After the reality TV star shared a photo of herself preparing a meal in her gorgeous kitchen, some people pointed out that she and her husband Jeremy Vuolo are living in a rental home. They think the couple is getting a big discount on housing costs through their church and likely wouldn’t be able to afford to buy a home where they currently live.

Jinger Duggar moved to California last year

It’s been a little less than a year since Jinger, Jeremy, and their daughter Felicity moved from Texas to California. The family relocated so Jeremy could complete his graduate work at the Master’s Seminary, a school in the Los Angeles area.

“Through much prayer and counsel, the next step for our family is to relocate to Los Angeles to attend Grace Community Church as Jeremy pursues graduate studies at The Master’s Seminary,” the couple announced in a now-deleted post on their website last year.

Jinger and Jeremy are reportedly renting a $4,000 a month home

After Jinger and Jeremy moved to LA, Radar Online revealed they were living in a $685,000 home in the San Fernando Valley. The spacious 2,000-square-foot pad was estimated to rent for $4,000 a month.

Some immediately began to question how the couple could afford their new digs. After all, Jeremy is a student and Jinger does not have a full-time job. (She does make money on sponsored Instagram posts and Cameo shoutouts.) The speculation was that they were getting some help with housing costs. The theory proved correct, with Jinger and Jeremy sharing in a Counting On episode that they found a six-month rental through their church.

Could Jinger and Jeremy afford to buy a house in Los Angeles?

Jinger and Jeremy indicated that they’d be in their new house for six months. But it’s been longer than that, and the couple seem to be staying put. When Jinger shared a photo of the home’s kitchen, some followers asked about her housing situation.

“Are they letting your stay in your house indefinitely then?” one asked.

“Didn’t they say it was temporary on the house shopping episode?” another wondered. “Guess you guys are great tenants!”

The details on Jinger and Jeremy’s housing situation aren’t clear. But when one person asked if they’d purchased a house, another commenter argued the couple wouldn’t be able to buy a home even if they wanted to.

“At this point [I’m] not sure if they can afford a house in California… housing is super expensive,” the person wrote.

The median sale price for a home in the San Fernando Valley was $720,000 in February 2020, according to the Southland Regional Association of Realtors. We don’t know exactly how much Jinger and Jeremy earn from appearing on Counting On and their other ventures. However, most would agree those prices don’t sound very affordable for a young family on a grad student’s budget.

'Counting On': The Reason Jill Duggar is the Probably Only Duggar Who is Receiving Therapy

Derick Dillard has shared a lot of information about his famousfamily in recent months. One of the biggest admissions to come out of Derick’srecent social media musings is the fact that his wife, Jill Duggar, iscurrently seeking help from a licensed therapist. The proclamation, made toKatie Joy of Without a Crystal Ball, took family followers by surprise. Itwould seem that Jill would be the first Duggar to seek thehelp of a licensed therapist who isn’t directly linked to the family’s ultra-conservativeChristian ministry. Followers are pretty sure that Jill is the only Duggarcurrently seeking therapy, and the fact that she and her husband stepped awayfrom the family’s conservative belief system is probably why.

Jill Duggar is no longer tied to the IBLP

Jilland Derick are not involved with the IBLP. It has long been assumed that Jillwas no longer connected to the ministry after marrying Derick, but familyfollowers never expected her to admit it. Derick was never a part of theultra-conservative ministry, and grew up in a more mainstream, although still religious, family.

Ina lengthy interview, Derick suggested that he found many of the ministry’steaching to be oppressive and counterproductive. He zeroed in on the ministry’smodesty rules and their thoughts on alcohol specifically. Derick has beenpretty outspoken about the fact that he doesn’t believe drinking is a sin, andthat he’s partaken in alcoholic beverages before. He also subtly suggested thathe and his wife are using birth control to plan their family. Birthcontrol is strictly prohibited for IBLP adherents.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar don’t seem to believe in mainstreamtherapy

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar don’t appear to believe in therapy,at least not in the type of treatment that people in mainstream society are usedto. During a lengthy interview about Josh Duggar’s inappropriate behavior towardshis siblings, the patriarch and matriarch of the family claimed they put Joshin counseling after the incident, but it was later revealed that they only lookedfor counsel from the Christian ministry they belong to. They, in essence, sent Joshto a family friend to engage in labor for his actions.

PsychologyToday notes that the way they dealt with Josh’s behavior was likely detrimentalto his well being and the well being of his victims. Later, after Josh admittedto engaging in extramarital affairs, the family claimed he had been sent to anin-patient program. Family followers believe he was, once again, sent to a faith-basedprogram associated with the IBLP, if he spent any time in treatment, at all.

Are adherents of the IBLP allowed to seek out therapy?

The Duggar family belongs to an insular social circle. They refusedto allow their children to attend school out of fear they would encounter adifferent belief system. Their dates were chaperoned, and their friendshipswere highly scrutinized. In fact, Amy Duggar, the family’s rebellious cousin, once claimed that shewas not allowed to spend one-on-one with her cousins because her uncle, JimBob, was fearful of what she would tell them.

ChicagoMagazine notes that this type of belief system is not uncommon for peoplewho are apart of the ultra-conservative Christian organization, the Instituteof Basic Life Principles. Counseling isn’t exactly verboten, but advice from a secularsource is strictly prohibited. In fact, the now-disgraced former leader of thegroup, Bill Gothard, was often tasked with one-on-one counseling sessions. Gothardholds no degree or accreditation that would make him qualified to dull out therapeuticcounseling, alleges the publication. If the Duggars who are still involved inthe ministry wanted to seek counsel, they would be expected to do so throughthe group, which seems unlikely to be beneficial.

Jill appears to be benefiting from therapy because she is nolonger apart of the group. If the other Duggars were interested in pursuing psychologicalcounsel, they’d like need to part ways with the ministry. While Jill hasremoved herself from the group, and it’s believed Jinger Duggar and herhusband, JeremyVuolo, are not adherents, many of the other married Duggars are stickingclose to their roots.

‘Counting On’ fans think Jinger Duggar is pregnant again

Quite a few fans were quick to ask Jinger if she is pregnant.More than likely, the questions arose because Jinger was wearing a long, baggycoat in the pic.

Jinger’s coat could easily hide a growing baby bump, though it is possible that the Counting On star just wanted to wear something a little extra comfortable for the walk.

This is not the first time Jinger Duggar has faced pregnancyrumors. According to CafeMom, Jinger sparked similar speculation in March when she added thehashtag, #healthyfitpregnancy, to one of her posts.

Jinger has since deleted the hashtag and has yet to comment onwhy she included it in the post. The Duggars are pretty accustomed to pregnancyrumors and Jinger will likely face plenty more in the future.

Jinger welcomed her first child with Jeremy in the summer of 2018. The Duggars are no strangers to large families, so it would not be a huge shocker if Jinger announced another pregnancy soon.
