Anthony Joshua opens up on his struggles with dating, life as a dad during lockdown and fighting Tyson Fury – The Sun

ANTHONY JOSHUA may be one of the globe’s biggest sporting stars, with a raft of titles and a legion of adoring fans – but true love is still proving tough to conquer.

The world heavyweight boxing champion today opens up to The Sun about life in lockdown with his family — including becoming “super dad” to his four-year-old son, JJ.

In a world exclusive interview, the 30-year-old fighter also discusses his determination to knock out boxing rival Tyson Fury, his flirtatious quip to The Queen and how sport can help reunite Britain after the Covid-19 crisis.

However, despite all of his accolades, Anthony admits there is one prize which remains as elusive as ever – finding love.

AJ says: “I think you can date and still be a successful sportsman but it’s hard to find a balance and I would have to compromise — which I’ve not felt able to do.

“My dad never gave me advice about much. But in terms of relationships what I have learnt and what I tell my son is, it would be nice to find a high school sweetheart and to grow together because as you get older you get set in your ways.

“For me to have a relationship now means I would have to compromise and change my ways and I don’t know how easy that would be for me to do.

“So I do date but I don’t get to the stage where I actually put anyone into that position.

“I don’t have a girlfriend and I haven’t had one for a while. But as I get older I do think it would be nice to have someone, someone to grow with as well — but I honestly haven’t found anyone.”

Any future girlfriend would have to understand what it’s like to be famous, he believes.

‘I NEED TO GO TO CELEBRITY PARTIES’

He explains: “Maybe I need to get off the estate and start going to celebrity parties — maybe do something different.

“I hope I will — and probably meeting someone else who understands fame would make sense. I would hope so. But it needs to be someone down to earth, family-orientated – someone who can call my mum their second mum.

“It takes time to grow that and, as I said, now I am older I am stuck in my ways. As I get older it would be nice to bring someone into my world but it’s dependent on who and I just haven’t found someone yet.

“Maybe we can go on a hunt. We have all the time now.”

With boxing currently on hold, Anthony has spent months at home enjoying time with his family at their Watford home.

But after initially embracing home-schooling his son, he admits he has struggled to keep up his efforts as the lockdown continues.

He told how the youngster's attention has gradually drifted away from his dad’s tuition and towards his favourite cartoons instead.

AJ says: “I started off as super-dad and then that slowly went out the window and to be honest he’s watching way too much TV now.

“The only thing he wants to do is watch Paw Patrol and Ryan’s World – there’s no way you’d get him watching Joe Wicks.”

AJ’s success in the ring means little to JJ and his modest dad is perfectly happy with that.

He says: “At home he doesn’t really think of me as a famous boxer or anything like that. I’m not a superstar and he doesn’t think so either. He knows I fight but that’s all.

“I always keep that stuff away from home. I’m not like that at home – and I’m not even like that when I go out, really.”

Soon AJ’s home-schooling will come to an end, although he does not know when yet. The heavyweight says: “The next conversation is about him going back to school — although I’m not too sure if we’ll send my boy back to school just yet.”

Sport is gradually preparing to return, with top-flight football resuming next month — and AJ believes it can help Britain get back on its feet.

He says: “Things are heading in the right direction and as long as it’s safe I think sport could play a big part in helping Britain come out of this — it’s 100 per cent going to help lift people.

“It’s great news about the Premier League and boxing will hopefully follow at some point.

“Sports in Britain, especially football, is part of our culture. It has to come back you know. It is part of our nation’s heritage.

“Once it comes back there will be an uplift of energy in households. It is passed down through families. It is good for communities.”

The whole of Britain wants to see him fight British rival Tyson Fury. AJ wants it, too, saying: “In my own mind I had mentally written off most of this year but, if I was to fight this year, it would probably be November or December.

“It’s difficult at the moment knowing how you cover the costs, and whether you could charge people in the circumstances for pay per view.”

'YOU NEED DISCIPLINE'

AJ has been determined to stay in shape despite being forced to train alone without his team around him.

He has his own key to his local gym and he says the unusual silence there has actually helped him.

AJ explains: “It’s my lifestyle. That’s what I’ve done all my life – instead of going to college, I went to the school of boxing. I learnt how to fight.

“So I’m still doing my studying, I’m still doing my education but I’ve got a key to my local gym which I’m allowed to go in. You need discipline and that’s one thing I’ve got personally, I don’t need to be told or pushed – it’s in my character.

“I just hit the bags, skip and it’s the first time in my whole boxing career where I’ve been left alone.

"Normally I’ve got someone in my ear, telling me what to do, how to do it and I’ve actually really enjoyed being on my own. It’s been a blessing.

“And there’s nobody to spar with so you don’t get hit — that’s not always a bad thing!”

He went on: “My workout regime is always boxing and it’s one of the things I love most about boxing. Out of all sports, you really don’t need much to get started.

"It’s just a pair of shorts, some trainers, and you can just start shadow boxing straight away.

“Watch some Mike Tyson and you can just pick up some things — that’s what I used to do. I’d watch Mike Tyson a lot and try his moves in the garden.

“Go to the park, shadow box, go running, listen to a bit of Rocky music, get into your mind that you’re a boxer and then you’re good to go.”

He also told how changes in his domestic routine have proved to be highly beneficial.

AJ says: “I never sit in the living room — and for the first time ever I have done. I was sitting outside earlier and I would never normally do that either. I would usually be at the gym, sauna, swimming.

“Of course, Covid has been a global pandemic and awful but for a lot of people, it has helped people find out about themselves and what they want to do.

“They have worked on themselves and spent time with their family. And that has been very positive for me.”

Derek Chauvin kept knee on ‘non-responsive’ George Floyd’s neck for almost 3 minutes

A Minneapolis cop kept his knee on George Floyd’s neck for nearly three minutes while the handcuffed man was “non-responsive” — and the “inherently dangerous” move likely helped kill him, according to court papers filed Friday.

The criminal complaint against since-fired cop Derek Chauvin also says that another cop checked Floyd’s right wrist for a pulse and said, “I couldn’t find one,” about two minutes before Chauvin finally removed his knee.

“The defendant had his knee on Mr. Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Two minutes and 53 seconds of this was after Mr. Floyd was non-responsive,” the complaint says.

“Police are trained that this type of restraint with a subject in a prone position is inherently dangerous.”

An autopsy found “no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation” of Floyd, but revealed “underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease,” the complaint says.

“The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death,” the document adds.

The complaint doesn’t specify whether Floyd was under the influence or drugs or alcohol, but notes that another cop asked if Floyd was “on anything” while he was busted Monday for allegedly passing a counterfeit $20 bill at a Minneapolis food store.

Chauvin, who was arrested Friday, is charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, but Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said that an investigation was ongoing and that more serious charges could be filed.

The three other cops at the scene are also likely to face charges, Freeman said, but he wouldn’t elaborate.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – New York City is “on track” to enter phase one of reopening on June 8, New York Governor Cuomo said on Friday as he announced that five upstate regions will now transition to phase two which includes businesses like barber shops and hair salons.

The most populous U.S. city, which has become the epicenter of the country’s coronavirus pandemic, was on track to meet the metrics for a safe reopening, Cuomo said.

UBER, LYFT DRIVERS SUE CUOMO OVER UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS

“We are on track to open on June 8,” Cuomo told a daily briefing but warned that “reopening does not mean we’re going back to the way things were.”

The first phase of reopening would allow non-essential construction and manufacturing to resume, and non-essential retail stores to offer curbside pick-up.

Cuomo said he expected some 400,000 New Yorkers to be able to return to their workplaces starting June 8, and said the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) was working on a plan to make the city’s mass transit system safe for commuters.

“I understand why people would be anxious about taking public transit,” Cuomo said. “The public transit system will be safe.”

HALF OF WORKING AMERICANS MIGHT NOT HAVE A PAYCHECK IN MAY

New York City is the only one of the state’s 10 regions that has not met the seven health benchmarks for reopening set by state authorities.

The Finger Lakes, Mohawk Valley, Southern Tier, North Country and Central New York are the five regions cleared to enter phase two and allow services like barber shops and in-store shopping to resume, with restrictions like 50% occupancy and face coverings.

Cuomo also recommended that professionals in the phase two industries get tested before operations resume.

“That’s not a mandate that’s a recommendation, and we recommend to customers to ask the barber or professional in the hair salon if they had a test before you use their services,” he said.

Who is on The Graham Norton Show tonight? Lady Gaga, Chris Evans, Michelle Dockery, Josh Gad and Michaela Coel

IT'S Friday and Graham Norton will once again be joined by our favourite stars on his hit chat show on BBC One.

The likes of Lady Gaga and Chris Evans will be chatting about their new projects, but who else will be joining Graham from their homes during lockdown?

Who is on The Graham Norton Show tonight?

The Graham Norton show hits our screens at 10.45pm on BBC One.

Graham's virtual sofa will be filled with A-list celebs once again, first with Lady Gaga who will talk about her new album Chromatica.

Then Chris Evans known for Captain America and Michelle Dockery from Downton Abbey will chat together about their new crime series, Defending Jacob.

Hollywood's Josh Gad who had a part in Frozen will share his latest animated work, Central Park.

Michaela Coel whose most known for Chewing Gum will reveal all about her new role in an upcoming BBC drama I May Destroy You.

At the end of the show Niall Horan, former One Direction, will perform his new single Black and White.

Lady Gaga

Global super star and award-winning performer Lady Gaga will be gracing the chair.

Her latest album Chromatica was released today and can be streamed now – already it has received critical praise.

It's pop-heavy but addresses heavy issues like mental health – something that Lady Gaga has always been open about.

Speaking to Zane Lowe she said: "I think that the beginning of the album really symbolizes, for me, what I would call the beginning of my journey to healing, and what I would hope would be an inspiration for people that are in need of healing through happiness, through dance.”

She reminded her fans that mental health issues are common and don't make you abnormal.

"If you’re listening to this album and you’re suffering in any type of way, just know that that suffering within itself is a sign of your humanity and you are not broken" she added.

Chris Evans

American heartthrob Chris Evans has starred in Captain America and The Avengers.

Tonight he will be talking about his latest job, Defending Jacob – a brand new crime drama series.

Chris produced the series and said it "feels like a natural step in the progression of a film career," as he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Chris stars in the series too, playing Attorney Andy Barber who helps the cops to investigate the murder – except it turns out that the finger is pointing at his son Jacob.

Michelle Dockery

Joining Chris is his co-star Michelle Dockery, who is also a part of the new series Defending Jacob.

Together they will talk about the show and most likely offer a glimpse into it with an exclusive clip.

Michelle is most known for playing Lady Mary Crawley in Downton Abbey, which she won three consecutive Emmy Awards for.

Now she'll be swapping into some modern day clothes to take on a lead role alongside Chris.

When talking about the new show she said it "asks how far you would go for your family".

Josh Gad

Josh Gad is an American actor and comedian most known for voicing the must-loved Olaf in Frozen.

The new series he'll be promoting, Central Park, is an animated story about the famous park's caretakers becoming world saviours with a focus on one family.

Speaking about his new role, Josh said: "Birdie is very different than Olaf.

"Olaf has this innocent naivety. Birdie is more of like a scatological narrator, who is not entirely a dependable narrator."

He recently joked that his daughters are harshly "somewhat over" him being a part of Frozen.

Michaela Coel

Michaela Coel came to our screens through Chewing Gun, the comic series following one woman's experiences of modern life – from dating to getting by.

She's about to comeback with a new series called I may Destroy You, which looks at how a woman is forced to renegotiate her life after being sexually assaulted at a nightclub.

Michaela wrote the script and stars as the lead role.

Speaking about the important themes the series deals with, she said: "The series is about how the personal identity we create in order to understand ourselves as beings in this world, how traumatic events may warp, contort and throw that sense of self into questioning."

I’m cheating on my pregnant fiancée with a sexy woman I met at work who I can’t resist – The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE I AM having amazing sex with a woman I met through work.

It is only sex and not going anywhere but my fiancée would be heartbroken to know I’m cheating on her. She’s having my baby in June.

I’m 31 and have been with my partner for five years.

She’s 28 and a good-looking, kind-hearted girl — and I guess I take her for granted.

We’ve been together through lockdown and bickered a bit, like you do, but all things considered we’ve got on quite well.

We’re still talking, at least.

I started my crazy affair at the start of the year.

I work in a pub and the woman is a regular there.

She’s 41, a bit of a flirt and a bit of a lush if I’m honest with you, but she’s fun and, I later found out, a wildcat in bed.

It began on the night of her birthday.

She’d had a few drinks in the pub with some mates and came on to me really strong, saying she wanted a present from me.

I walked her back home because she couldn’t walk straight on her own.

My fiancée hasn’t been up for sex much since she got pregnant.

Two weeks later, this woman gave me the wink and it happened again.

It was better, more sober, that time and it made me feel great.

It happened again and again after that.

During the lockdown we’ve had to make do with just the odd sexy session videoing on WhatsApp but it has kept me switched on to her charms.

I don’t know what to do.

I want to be the best father and partner I can but I want to keep seeing that woman for sex.

I want to come clean to my partner and tell her I cheated on her — but then how could I face her again?

You need to grow up and accept that you can’t have it all.

You have to decide what’s important to you and what matters the most.

I hope you decide that you’ll give it whatever it takes.

Chrissy Teigen Reflected On Being "Gently Replaced" With ‘Deal Or No Deal’ Throwback Pic

Allow this piece of nostalgia to offer a quarantine reprieve: Chrissy Teigen’s Deal or No Deal throwback photo is so 2000s. The Chrissy’s Court host reposted an Instagram photo from the account @2000sfashionista on May 23 from her days as a briefcase model on the reality game show and reflected on being “gently replaced.” In the slightly blurry picture, Teigen holds open a briefcase with “$750,000” fashioned on the case and sports an expressive facial reaction.

“This feels like an alternate universe,” Teigen captioned the post. She then followed up in the comments section and wrote, “I never understood when I was supposed to make the sad face. I think that’s why I was gently replaced.” Teigen’s followers reacted to the throwback with humorous observations: “The thin eyebrows,” one Instagram user wrote. “Brings back so many memories.” Another wrote, “Chrissy walked so Meghan Markle could run.”

Teigen appeared as a briefcase model for eight episodes of Deal or No Deal between 2007 and 2008. While on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in 2018, Teigen reflected on her shared experience with Markle as a briefcase model prior to the duchess’ marriage to Prince Harry. “I think she came in the second season or so,” she told Cohen. “I did it from the pilot season to first, but then I got demoted because I couldn’t walk down the stairs.”

She continued, “I literally was fired; well, not fired, but I couldn’t be a ‘briefcase girl,’ so they made me a ‘banker girl.’ It was a blurry time.” Teigen joked about Markle’s royal nuptials to Prince Harry, “I keep telling [husband] John [Legend], ‘That could’ve been me.’” When Legend quipped ‘You won’ from the audience, Teigen then replied, “Did I, though?”

Like Teigen, Markle’s briefcase model days seemed less than idealistic, too. In an interview with Esquire in 2013, the duchess revealed that she went on the game show in order to pay the bills during the start of her career. “I would put that in the category of things I was doing while I was auditioning to try to make ends meet. I went from working in the U.S. Embassy in Argentina to ending up on Deal,” Markle said. “It’s run the gamut. Definitely working on Deal or No Deal was a learning experience, and it helped me to understand what I would rather be doing."

Several years on, Teigen and Markle’s briefcase model days are far behind them. But the priceless photos live on.

McMuffins could be back on the McDonald’s menu very soon

The past few months have been tough on fast food fans.

But the past two weeks there’s been a light at the end of the (burger-less) tunnel, as McDonald’s has slowly been reopening stores – albeit with a limited menu.

But now it seems there’s more good news, as the fast food giant has announced that more menu items could be on the way very soon – including the return of the humble McMuffin.

A statement sent to Metro.co.uk from McDonald’s UK and Ireland CEO Paul Pomroy explained the chain plans to reintroduce the breakfast favourite soon.

It said: ‘Over the coming months, we will explore how to extend the menu, increase our opening hours and reintroduce those much-missed McMuffins at breakfast.’

However, it stressed that McDonald’s will do so very cautiously and guided by information from the government and health officials.

It added: ‘Working with our employees, franchisees and suppliers I want to ensure we only move forward to the next stage of reopening at the right time, when we are confident it is safe for us to do so.’

Currently the chain is operating with reduced staff and a limited menu in order to adhere to social distancing measures.

Other new measures include perspex screens in key locations in the kitchen and service areas, as well as protective (non-medical) equipment for staff – including gloves and face masks for customer and courier-facing positions

Last week, McDonald’s reopened more than 30 restaurants for drive thru, following on from the 15 restaurants it reopened for delivery on 13 May.

Although, all the locations are currently in the South East of England.
