Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree have opened up on their amazing story in A Year at the Chateau. The couple swapped their east London flat for a derelict 19th-century chateau six years ago but have been unable to welcome guests to the stunning wedding over the last year. However, Angel revealed they have an “issue” to overcome with their son Arthur before they can host weddings again at the Escape to the Chateau venue.

Speaking on Graham Norton’s Virgin Radio UK show, Angel shared an “issue” her son Arthur has created in the Chateau.

Graham asked: “When lockdown is over, it’s going to be odd for you because this is a business and you invite guests in.

“But for the last year, it’s been a family home. Is it going to weird opening the doors to strangers again?”

“I don’t know, I just feel like this house was meant to have people around,” Angel replied.

“We have still got our bubble; in our way, the Chateau is still bustling with energy but it’s something that I’m looking forward to.

“I know our team has really missed the energy and excitement of weddings so I think when it happens it’s going to feel natural.”

Dick added: “It’s going to be interesting, we don’t do a lot of weddings.

“We’ve always said we would do them twice a week for the season, so maybe we’d have a dozen weddings in the year – so that makes it more special. It’s like having 12 parties!

“I’m always very, very invested in all of the weddings,” Angel explained.

“And I’ve really missed chatting to the brides and getting all the flowers ready and doing all the stuff for their happiest day.

“We have got the issue that Arthur’s built a boxful out of boxes around the staircase, he hasn’t got enough room in The Chateau or something.”

Dick went on to reveal he got into “trouble” with his wife over their new side project.

Host Graham pointed out Angel’s contribution to the book is in bold while Dick’s is not.

She explained the reason for the difference was because she had written less.

However, the radio presenter couldn’t resist teasing Dick about his wife’s “dominance”.

“There’s a big difference in how we work together,” Dick explained.

“You see, because of the horsepower and some of the things that aren’t quite so interesting, I got into such trouble for writing about toilets in October.”

“Apparently, that’s not what people want to read about – but it was really important,” he added.

Angel joked that she “fell asleep” while reading Dick’s chapter on toilets.

Escape to the Chateau is available to watch on All4.
