ALESHA DIXON has scored a string of big hits during her career and after a five-year break she is finally plotting a return to the charts.
The Britain’s Got Talent judge has revealed she has secretly been writing and recording a “heartfelt” new album, although she is yet to finish it due to lockdown.
But it could be released to coincide with her 20-year anniversary in the industry in January next year, when the debut single from her girl group Mis-Teeq, Why, entered the charts.
Alesha explained: “I was in the middle of writing some great, really authentic songs, really honest. Some of them were actually inspired by this whole craziness that’s been going on in the world.
“I’m ready for the next record. I really want to make a heartfelt, honest record that really has something to say. I’m excited to get back, so fingers crossed.
“I was in the studio writing and then Boris Johnson said lockdown and the session had to stop.
“I got a text the other day from the producer asking if I felt ready to go back in the studio. I am definitely ready, I’m just making sure that we can and it’s allowed and it’s all safe.”
As well as two albums with Mis-Teeq, Alesha has released four solo records featuring hits including The Boy Does Nothing and Breathe Slow.
But her return to music will be juggled with a push to break America as a TV star after landing a judging role on America’s Got Talent: The Champions earlier this year.
She said: “I would love to go back out to America.
“It had been a dream of mine for a very long time to work on American television and that was definitely a ‘pinch me’ moment.
“No matter who you are or what you do, everybody gets to a point where they get itchy feet and they want to try something new and they need to be challenged.
“I like to step into an arena that makes me feel afraid because I know that that’s good for me.
“I know that by stepping out of my comfort zone, great things come from that. So I try to embrace that.
“I was really scared but in the most amazing way.
“I was so excited, I’d just had my daughter and we all went out there together as a family.
“The world is on lockdown but I can’t wait for it to be over so I can hopefully go back out to America and see what other opportunities there are out there for me.”
Good for her.

Shoes look Nike, Mabel
SHE was supposed to be performing at Glastonbury this weekend but at least Mabel won’t be getting her new shoes covered in dust.
The Boyfriend singer posed in these Air Max trainers for JD Sports ahead of the weekend when the festival would have taken place if it hadn’t fallen victim of the coronavirus pandemic.
She is expected to be back on the line-up next year when she will have more music to showcase.
Following the release of her debut album High Expectations last August, she has been working on tracks and making use of a home studio during lockdown.
With all that time to write, another year should be more than enough time to finally release that second album.

JESS Glynne has teased new music isn’t far off as she wants to celebrate her radio success of 2019. She wrote on Instagram: “I am the most played female artist of the year! Might drop something new to say thanks.”
Jesy dobs in boozer Perrie
JESY Nelson has revealed the drinking habits of her band-mate Perrie Edwards.
And, I must say, the Little Mix singer is a woman after my own heart.
Jesy says: “Perrie just loves sitting at home drinking wine to herself. I hate wine, I couldn’t think of anything worse, for me the enjoyment of being drunk is just being with my friends and having fun, I wouldn’t get enjoyment from just sitting at home getting drunk on my own.”
Jesy told the Steths, Drugs & Rock ’n’ Roll podcast that cocktails are her favourite alcoholic beverage, for one very specific reason.
The singer explains: “I love cocktails, I love any sort of alcohol that doesn’t taste like alcohol.”
Jesy has clearly never had an ice cold pint of Amstel.

KATIE Price says it has been a long process for her to become friends with Peter Andre again following their 2009 split. Revealing she also likes Peter’s new wife, she told New! magazine: “It’s taken bloody time!
Wiley back… already
DAYS after he vowed he had retired, Wiley has released a new album.
The Wearing My Rolex rapper dropped the 19-track Boasty Gang online on Tuesday, a fortnight after The Godfather 3, which he said would be his “final” record, peaked at No107.
He described the new record as “Windrush music” in tribute to the Caribbean community that came to the UK from the 1940s.
Only last week Wiley said he had decided not to release another album because he didn’t want to “end up the old geezer among kids”.
In future I’ll take everything he says with a pinch of salt.

Adele's tears at Glasto gig
ADELE was one of Glastonbury’s greatest ever headliners when she took to the Pyramid Stage in 2016.
But Jo Whiley has revealed the superstar was in tears of fear minutes before going on.
The DJ interviewed Adele shortly before her set and said the singer broke down halfway through the chat because she was “absolutely panic stricken.”
Jo said: “She was really scared, really, really scared. We were doing the interview and at one point she had to stop as she was in tears.
“She was saying how much Glastonbury meant to her, and she’d been going since she was a child.
“She was just so stricken with nerves, absolutely panic stricken.”
Jo was promoting the BBC’s The Glastonbury Experience, which is its coverage of the festival’s 50 years across TV, iPlayer and radio this weekend following it’s cancellation.
Jo added: “It was amazing to see somebody like that, then to witness her walking out on stage, and doing the most incredible set and see the confidence oozing out.
“She had this connection with all these people, and to know that half an hour before she’d been in tears at the thought of walking out there.”
It’s Britney, beach
BRITNEY Spears masked up for a cute beach date in Los Angeles with her muscled boyfriend Sam Asghari.
The Toxic singer wore a tiny animal-print bikini and made sure to adhere to lockdown rules with a protective face mask.
She shared this photo of herself walking hand-in-hand with Sam towards the sea and the selfie of them sunbathing.
Britney’s clearly been eager to get back on the sand as she captioned the pictures: “All you need is love and the beach.”
After a tricky few years which has seen her take a hiatus from music, I’m glad to see her looking so positive.

CHARLIZE Theron insists she wasn’t engaged to her ex, fellow actor, Sean Penn, despite claims he proposed in 2014. She told US shock jock Howard Stern: “That’s such bulls**t. We dated. It was a relationship, for sure. We were exclusive, but it was for barely a year.”
MEGAN Fox has defended director Michael Bay after a 2009 interview resurfaced in which she described working with him prompted accusations he had sexualised her. She said: “In a ruthlessly misogynistic industry I was never assaulted or preyed upon in a sexual manner.”
KELLY Rowland suffered a “full on anxiety attack” in 2018 when she met her biological father, Christopher Lovett, for the first time in 30 years. The Destiny’s Child singer added: “I was walking to meet him and I was overcome with anxiety. In that moment I felt like the abandoned eight year old.”
A SPOTIFY playlist from Download Festival on the weekend it was due to take place this month saw a 2,000 per cent surge in streams. The service also found Dua Lipa was the most popular artist as part of the Glastonbury line-up, which was supposed to be taking place this weekend.
