Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Buffy sacrifices herself in 2001 finale
Buffy The Vampire Slayer is a timeless supernatural series and it has recently been picked up by streaming platforms across the world. The series starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as the title character and she was burdened with saving the world. She met Kendra (played by Bianca Lawson), another slayer, and fans are keen to know what happened to her.
What happened to Bianca Lawson as Kendra in Buffy?
Kendra Young was a Jamaican slayer who was passed the baton following the temporary death of Buffy in 1997.
She had been identified as a potential slayer at a young age and took her role very seriously.
Kendra was activated as the next slayer after Buffy was killed by the Master (Mark Metcalf) but Xander (Nicholas Brendon) managed to revive her.
Kendra had already been summonsed which meant two slayers were working alongside each other for the first time.
She and Buffy were very different in character as Kendra was wholly dedicated to her work, whereas Buffy still had friendships and relationships to consider.

Kendra may have come across as emotionless to begin with, but she helped Buffy understand her fate was a positive thing.
She ended up becoming friends with Buffy, promising to keep her relationship with vampire Angel (David Boreanaz) a secret.
She worked with Buffy and her friends against antagonists Spike (James Marsters) and Drusilla (Juliet Landau).
Sadly she was killed by Drusilla after she returned to help Buffy and her friends cure Angelus.
Drusilla ended up in a one-on-one fight with Kendra and she used her mind tricks to hypnotise Kendra and kill her.
Buffy kept Kendra’s lucky stake, “Mr Pointy”, as a way of preserving her legacy.
Her death activated Faith (Eliza Dushku) as the next slayer as Buffy was still believed to have been dead.
Kendra may have only appeared in three episodes but she is still one of the best-loved characters in the series.
Actress Lawson was praised for playing the groundbreaking character as she epitomised the black heroic female.
She was a weapon in her own right and Buffy was taken aback by her vast knowledge of slayer traditions.

Fans took to Reddit to say they wished Kendra could have played a bigger role in the series as she had a lot of potential.
Oblinasdad said: “I don’t think she would’ve been as strong a counterpart as Faith, but I think with the right storytelling, she could’ve been awesome.”
Stbgirl26 said: “I’ve always wished we (the audience) had gotten to spend more time with her. Then, her death would have felt more impactful.”
Many viewers believe Kendra’s death was a way of proving how dangerous being a slayer could be.
Willara_219 said: “Honestly, I think Kendra’s death was meant to be more shocking than anything – forcing the Scoobies and the audience to fully come to terms with the reality that a Slayer can die and stay dead, unlike Buffy in ‘Prophecy Girl’.”
Lawson is the step-sister to Beyoncé and Solange Knowles. Her father, Richard Lawson, married Tina Knowles in 2015.
Following her role in Buffy, she went on to star in The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars and Teen Wolf.
She is currently starring as Darla in the series Queen Sugar – a role she has played since 2016.
Back in 2012 the star revealed in an interview how she had originally been cast to play Cordelia Chase, a role later taken by Charisma Carpenter.
She told myfanbase: “I was committed to another show at the time. And, no I didn’t think about how my Cordelia would have been different because Charisma’s portrayal was wonderful. She was the perfect Cordelia. And, might I add – was lovely to work with.”
