Coronation Street aired a dramatic exit on the cobbles during Friday night's episode of the ITV soap ahead of the harrowing Daisy Midgeley and Justin Rutherford acid attack storyline.
During the latest instalment, Weatherfield's residents went all out for Daisy's hen do ahead of her wedding to Daniel Osbourne on Monday.
However, Daisy's estranged mother, Christina (Amy Robbins), who she has recently rekindled her strained relationship with, had a surprise in store.
And later during the hen party, Christina unveiled two friends from Daisy's past, Samantha and Ellie, but it was soon clear they were no friends and in fact bullies.
As they made various digs throughout the hen party and constantly put Daisy down – with Christina not standing up for her daughter once, the feisty pub worker eventually snapped.
Daisy ordered a taxi for Samantha and Ellie, as well as Christina, as she booted them all out of the Rovers to which she declared to her mother: "I don't want you at the wedding!"
As a bitter Christina went to leave, she told Daisy in spiteful words: "No woman in our family has ever had a happy wedding day and you are no different.
"You see, there's a family curse. It's true, the day was cursed from the beginning. The further away from it I am, the better."
And the words were particularly chillings as soap fans are aware that Monday's episode will see stalker Justin return to Weatherfield to cruelly attack Daisy with acid on her wedding day to Daniel.
In a future episode, Daisy, played by Charlotte Jordan, wakes up with a bloodshot eye and is convinced her wedding to Daniel (Rob Mallard) is cursed.
And things go from bad to worse when Ryan Connor is forced to step in as chauffeur as the wedding car has been stolen and the cake arrives decorated with a retirement message.
However, thanks to Jenny Connor and Glenda Shuttleworth's help, later Daisy arrives downstairs at The Rovers Return looking a million dollars.
As Ryan loads his car, Alya Nazir wishes him well with his new venture in Ibiza but when he returns to the pub to get Daisy they're shocked to find Justin (Andrew Still) lurking there after his arrest.
Justin advances on Daisy holding a glass full of clear liquid, telling Daisy that no one will want her after this, as he throws acid at her.
Later in the week, a devastated Daisy struggles to deal with the aftermath of Justin's violent attack.
The Katie Piper Foundation has supported Coronation Street in understanding the "long-lasting impact" of an acid attack as the ITV soap explores the issue in the upcoming storyline.
