Dr Hilary has been on hand throughout the coronavirus pandemic to offer help and advice to Good Morning Britain viewers. As Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid discussed reports that the lockdown could be coming to an end, Dr Hilary advised it would be “completely wrong”.
The doctor explained: “This virus behaves in ways we don’t fully understand at all.
“We can’t even think about end of lockdown yet.
“If we allow a second peak it’s going to cause a lot more deaths.”
Dr Hilary admitted that he believes quarantine does need to end but now is not the right time to start discussing it

“Yes, we need to end lockdown… but with the right people at the right time,” he continued.
“To let people think this is nearly over is completely wrong.”
Dr Hilary continued: “We will have to observe what happens.
“We have to take precautions accordingly. I know people will become bored at home but this pandemic is completely unprecedented and it’s behaving in ways we really don’t understand.”
Piers noted it’s not just Dr Hilary who feels this way but frontline workers are also concerned lockdown will end too early.
“If you talk to anyone on the NHS frontline, they are aghast at the lockdown opening up,” he noted.
“I feel like we’re in a very strange place when the government rules are being ignored by the public.”
Many viewers also agreed with Dr Hilary and took to Twitter to express how they felt about the current situation.

“Absolutely correct it is too soon to stop the lock down ask yourself would you rather die or miss your relations for a few weeks more,” one viewer tweeted.
Another continued: “I absolutely can’t agree more with him, we should never be broken in this lockdown too early. People’s lives are far better than worrying about the economy.”
A third shared: “I agree. Do not end the lockdown yet, or there will be an even bigger loss of life @GMB. And I speak from experience, losing three friends from Coronavirus.”
Earlier in the show, Piers hit out at those who were flouting the UK’s lockdown rules.

The presenter ranted: “Strange weekend, I went out a couple of times, Kensington High Street absolutely rammed, cars everywhere, Holland Park was packed.
“The lockdown has unlocked, people have decided they’re just not going to do it and this is why I’m thrilled Boris Johnson is back at work.”
The current UK lockdown was put into place on March 23 by Prime Minister Boris Johnson and is set to be reviewed on May 7.
