Emmerdale spoilers: Cryptic clue ‘confirms’ Vanessa Woodfield’s death from bowel cancer

Emmerdale viewers have been worrying about the outcome of Vanessa Woodfield’s (played by Michelle Hardwick) bowel cancer storyline after she was diagnosed with stage three earlier this year. After beginning chemotherapy treatment this month, details about how the storyline is going to end have been kept closely under wraps by ITV. But it seems the actress who plays Vanessa may have dropped the biggest clue about how it is going to end, and it doesn’t look positive for the village vet and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins).

After being held hostage by Pierce Harris (Jonathan Wrather), Vanessa found out she had stage three bowel cancer and was immediately referred for surgery to remove the tumour.

But because the disease had spread into her lymph nodes, she began chemotherapy to help reduce the spread.

Little is known to how the storyline is going to end, of course, the actress who plays Vanessa knows.

During a recent conversation with Radio Times she said: “I was told the outcome straight away as soon as our producer Jane Hudson talked me through the storyline.

“I’ve always known which way it’s going to go for Vanessa, and my lips are sealed!”

However, it seems Vanessa’s fate has been ‘confirmed’ by the actress.

Taking to Twitter to share the good news, Michelle and her wife Kate Brooks who producers Emmerdale revealed they were expecting their first child together.

The image on social media showed a newly pregnant Michelle holding her small bump with a huge smile on her face, while Kate held their beloved dog Fred and pointed to her wife stomach.

The caption added to the image read: “Fred’s big brother duties commence in October #BabyBrooks.”

With Michelle due to give birth this autumn, does this mean her character is going to die from bowel cancer?

Fellow cast members and other famous faces flocked to reply and sent their good wishes.

Emmerdale’s official Twitter account retweeted the good news and added: “We’re over the moon! Congrats #Emmerdale.”

Lisa Riley who plays Mandy Dingle in the ITV soap tweeted: “BEST NEWS EVER, over the moon for you both, congratulations, you will be the best mammas.”

Gaynor Faye, who played Megan Macey until last summer added: “OMG congratulations – how wonderful! You must be over the moon xxx.”

Yes im pleased for Michelle and Kate but what does this mean for #vanity??? Im sorry but if Vanessa dies im out or if they get married then she dies im still out. #emmerdale,” another added.

Someone else wrote: “People, don’t worry about Vanessa, she is not dying, Vanity will be fine and they will go to Scotland to visit Debbie as part of the storyline #Emmerdale #Vanity.”

After all, Michelle has been in been in the soap for the past seven years.

But how has the fans responded to this storyline?

“Audience feedback has been overwhelming, we have been praised from not shying away from describing symptoms and talking about poo and blood – saying those words to your loved one and your doctor isn’t something you normally see on TV. Working with Bowel Cancer UK has been massively helpful,” Michelle added to Radio Times.

“It’s been tough but I want to do it justice for the people going through it in real life, that’s all I’m bothered about.”

Emmerdale airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7pm on ITV.
