Matthew Wolfenden has reportedly left Emmerdale after 17 years on the ITV soap.
The 43-year-old actor played shopkeeper David Metcalfe.
He allegedly decided to leave due to a lack of gritty storylines.
‘Matthew has had an amazing time on the soap, but feels ready for a change,’ revealed a source.
‘He hasn’t been getting any gritty storylines recently so wants to see what else is out there.’
They continued to The Sun: ‘He’s only just announced he is leaving so scriptwriters are working out his on-screen exit. It’s possible David could be killed off.’
This comes after his wife Charley Webb also quit the soap in 2021.
Charley is enjoying developing her acting career outside of her Emmerdale role as Debbie Dingle.
