Alexander Armstrong savages Phil and Holly over ‘Queuegate’
It is almost seven months since Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield caused a huge furore when they jumped the queue to visit Queen Elizabeth II lying in state in London’s Westminster Hall.
However, if they hoped people had forgotten about it, they are sorely mistaken.
Pointless host Alexander Armstrong couldn’t resist joking about the incident on Friday’s Have I Got News For You when the conversation turned to the coronation of King Charles III.
The 53-year-old was guest hosting the popular current affairs comedy show and was discussing the stars expected to attend the historic event.
Deadpanning in his delivery he said: “There are a number of TV celebrities on the coronation guest list including Bear Grylls, Jay Blades and Ant and Dec.”
He then joked: “Holly and Phil will also be up there at the front, even though they haven’t been invited.”
Alexander wasn’t the only one having a pop at the presenting pair over the weekend.
During Saturday’s lavish proceedings they were savagely mocked online by viewers who couldn’t help but notice their absence.
Taking to Twitter users joked they were surprised the This Morning hosts hadn’t beaten Charles and Camilla to the balcony at Buckingham Palace.
One social media user called @followthenut joked: “Still trying to spot Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby #Coronation2023.”

Another using the handle @Minett02 quipped: “#HollyWilloughby and #phillipschofield jumped the queue last night to get into Westminster Abbey #KingCharlesCoronation #Coronation2023.”
@quishey mocked: “Charles just got in his Royal Gold Carriage and found Phillip Schofield & Holly Willoughby in there… #Coronation.”
“Can’t wait to see Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on the balcony,” @redboardie tweeted.
Another quizzed: “Have Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby been given their own thrones during the Coronation?”
Meanwhile someone using the handle @I_am_KenBarlow jibed: “Phillip Schofield & Holly Willoughby haven’t arrived yet,” adding a picture of two empty thrones in Westminster Abbey.”
At the time of the scandal This Morning shared a statement on their Instagram page in response to the upset.
“Hello everyone, we would like to clarify something,” they began.
“We asked Phillip and Holly to be part of a film for this Tuesday’s programme.
“They did not jump the queue, have VIP access or file past the Queen lying in state – but instead were there in a professional capacity as part of the world’s media to report on the event.”
The presenting duo caused outrage after it was revealed that they were led to a press gallery for a separate viewing while the likes of Susanna Reid and David Beckham queued for up to 13 hours to pay tribute to the late monarch.
Have I Got News For You is on BBC One on Fridays at 9pm.
