Ellis first made his first appearance on Hollyoaks in 1999, before joining the cast in 2003 and he has been involved in gripping storylines from the get go.

Poor Tom has lived through the death of both his parents and adored older brother, Max, being abused as a kid and more recently, impregnating his teenage girlfriend, Peri Lomax (Ruby O'Donnel).

His world came tumbling down when Peri decided to give their baby up for adoption.

However, things have turned around for Tom after Yasmine Maalik popped the question in a big romantic declaration to make the 25th anniversary of Hollyoaks.

Ellis told The Daily Star: "I was unhappy where I was physically.

"I was always the unfit, asthmatic kid at school and I couldn't do sport to save my life.

"I got fed up with that and I got the chance to start going to the gym regularly, and I've been going for two years now.

"It's really starting to pay off and I feel a lot better about myself."
