Home and Away star shares which co-star surprised her most as she exits show

Home and Away star Maddy Jevic stormed onto screens back in 2020 when she made her debut as Amber Simmons.

The feisty character was introduced as the carer of John Palmer after he had a stroke, but it quickly became apparent that she had a complicated history with Colby Thorne, Willow Harris and Dean Thompson.

Amber was revealed to be the sister of Dean and Colby’s friend, Jai, who was killed in a car crash in 2012 while the boys were deeply involved in the River Boys gang.

Shortly after arriving in Summer Bay, Amber dropped the bombshell on Dean that he was the father of her son, Jai.

Amber hasn't been seen in the Bay for a while, but it is now confirmed she won't be returning after accepting a job offer across the country.

During Monday's episode (May 1) of the Channel 5 soap, Dean continued to feel powerless following Amber's decision to relocate to Queensland with their son.

Wanting to keep their family together, Ziggy suggested to Dean that they should follow Amber and Jai and start a new life in Queensland too.

Opening up on what it was like joining the soap as a long-running fan, the Wentworth star revealed it was Alf Stewart star Ray Meagher who surprised her the most on set.

"Ray's really sharp – he is really smart," the actress told TV Week. "Alf is Alf, but in real life, Ray is just onto it. I was really surprised by his charisma."

Maddy also admitted she couldn't hide her excitement at meeting Lynne McGranger, who has portrayed Irene Roberts since 1993.

"Because I grew up watching [the show], she was just this familiar beautiful energy. She's like a mum – so down to earth and loving," she said. "I was like, 'Oh my God, I'm in Summer Bay with Irene!'"

Joining the soap in 2020, Maddy began filming during the COVID-19 pandemic and addressed the filming process, explaining they had plenty of people to help them out on set.

The star said: "So many people were there to help us with it all. As actors you have to tell a story at the end of the day, but there's so many people there that were helping us make the right decisions to go about it."

Home and Away airs 1:45pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5STAR. First-look screenings air at 6:30pm on 5STAR and the show also streams on My5.
