ITV slammed for ruining pledge of allegiance after subtitles blunder

King Charles Coronation: Pledge of allegiance held in Westminster Abbey

ITV viewers were invited to “cry and out swear allegiance” to King Charles III after the royal was formally crowned alongside his wife, Queen Camilla.

King Charles’s family and guests were invited to witness the historic moment, which was also broadcast on ITV and BBC.

During the coronation ceremony, the Archbishop of Canterbury invited people to say: “I swear that I will pay true allegiance to Your Majesty, and to your heirs and successors according to law. So help me God.”

The commentator also told viewers before the oath: “The Archbishop invites all who so desire to pay homage.

‘The words will be on the screen.”

He began: “I now invite those who wish to offer their support to do so.

“With a moment of private reflection by joining in saying, ‘God save King Charles’ at the end, or for those with the words before them to recite them in full.

The Archbishop of Canterbury proceeded to read out the pledge of allegiance along with the guests present at Westminster Abbey.

However, much to their disappointment, viewers were unable to echo the pledge because the subtitles didn’t appear on screen as promised.
