NCIS: LA season finale teased in promo clip
CBS drama NCIS Los Angeles is officially over with season 14 wrapping up on Sunday, May 21.
The final ever episode had a number of surprises up its sleeve, with the stage set for Callen (played by Chris O’Donnell) and Anna’s (Bar Paly) wedding day as well as the prospect of Hetty’s (Linda Hunt) hotly-anticipated return.
Callen and Anna did get to say “I do” in an impromptu yet still adorable city hall wedding while fans did get to hear from Hetty via a letter rather than Hunt appearing on-screen.
But the surprises then came thick and fast as Nell Jones (Renee Felice Smith) made a surprise comeback after her season 10 exit to offer Callen and Sam (LL Cool J) the mission to find Hetty after she’d landed herself in trouble in Morocco.
However, arguably the biggest – and most tearjerking – surprise of the episode came from Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) and Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) as the duo finally discovered they were expecting a baby together.
Their journey to parenthood had been plagued with obstacle after obstacle but joined by foster daughter Rosa (Natalia Del Riego), the trio shared a tearful embrace when Kensi discovered she was pregnant.
With the episode ended on such a high, combined with the tantalising prospect of Callen and Sam still working together in Northern Africa – spin-off perhaps? – it was inevitable fans would be left reaching for the tissues.
Taking to Twitter during the episode, a number of fans shared their thoughts on the finale, including @pierce_angelus who said: “I love how much Callen has grown and how much he’s changed in the course of 14 seasons #NCISLA he was the biggest reason I started watching and continued to watch.
“It makes me sad to think I won’t get any more new episodes but I’m so happy I got 14 great years. Thank you @NCISLA.”
“This series finale of #NCISLosAngeles got me in my feelings. #NCISLA,” @bubbatheOG added while @ReadWatchMunch shared a snap of ‘Densi’ and said: “I’m still crying over them. I miss them already #Densi #NCISLA,” followed by broken heart emojis.
Tears were flowing for @traveltastelove as well as they weighed in: “Not me crying at the end of @NCISLA #seriesfinale #NCISLA #ncislafinale.”
While @Surferm57878598 begged: “@CBS please un cancel @NCISLA. I want it back next season. There was no reason for it to be cancelled. So bring it back #NCISLA @DanielaRuah @llcoolj @rtunell @ericcolsen and more.”
And Nikki Neumann echoed: “Anyone else just absolutely ugly crying watching @NCISLA right now?! This can’t be the last episode. 14 years of loving this show, thank you to the entire cast for always giving their all each episode! Going to miss this show #ncisla.”
Showrunner R Scott Gemmill has spoken out about the finale’s sweet ending since the episode aired, and touched on the decision to drop Kensi and Deek’s long-awaited baby bombshell.
When asked what Ruah’s reaction was to the plot, Gemmill told TV Line: “She was all for it.
“And you know, [couples getting pregnant after they cease trying] is a common thing that happens.
“I hope we hit it pretty well, where they moved on and adopted and suddenly you’re faced with this reality of, ‘Oh my gosh, our family just doubled’.”
NCIS Los Angeles is available to stream on Paramount+ in the USA and continues Sunday on Sky Max in the UK.
