RHONY Luann de Lesseps says staying sober 'wasn't easy' as she joined co-stars for drunken Hamptons party

REAL Housewives of New York Luann de Lesseps revealed that staying on the wagon during a wild party night in The Hamptons, was a challenge.

The star said it was "tough" to remain sober while they rest of the cast were drinking.

"It was tough going through that party without drinking. It hasn't been easy," Luann explained in an interview with E! on Tuesday.

"I didn't cave so I was very proud of myself. And I was just amused by watching them. I was like, 'This is better than drinking.'"

The star had a period of sobriety following her drunken Christmas rampage two years ago.

She said that "redemption" was what the 12th season of RHONY has been about for her.

"For me, it's really about a season of redemption," Luann said of the show's 12th season, currently airing week to week on Bravo. "I've been through a lot the last couple of years and I'm finally feeling good and back in the driver's seat. I feel like it was a major reset button, somehow; like this season is a reset button for me."

She told them there had been more space for other cast members to breathe since Bethenny Frankel quit the show.

"I always say, you know, Bethenny…it was great and she was a great addition to the cast, obviously. But she was the one who decided to leave. And quite frankly, she takes up a lot of the oxygen in the room," Luann explained.

"So I feel like the women have more room to breathe now, and really get to show more of their personalities. Because she just took up a lot of oxygen. I feel like everyone's breathing a little easier."

Luann hit rock bottom following her arrest on charges of battery, trespassing and disorderly intoxication.

She later checked herself into an alcohol treatment center – before a second stint in rehab in July 2018.

Her sobriety pledge formed a key part of her plea deal with prosecutors the following month which saw her spared jail.

She was instead sentenced to one year probation, banned from consuming any alcohol or illegal drugs, and ordered to perform 50 hours of community service.

RHONYC airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on Bravo.
