Riverdale has had a grown-up makeover during season five after the show had a seven-year time jump. The characters all graduated high school and went their separate ways. Fans want to know what this means about the ages of the main characters.

How old is Archie from Riverdale?

When Archie Andrews (played by KJ Apa) finished high school he was 18-years-old – along with the other teenage characters.

Instead of repeating his final year of Riverdale High, Archie chose to enlist in the army.

Archie went and fought in a war but it’s not clear what conflict he faced, however, it was clear he had been changed by his experiences on the frontline.

He was later dismissed and sent back to Riverdale after all his time away, where he was horrified by what he found.

Meanwhile, Archie’s friends went off to college with former flame Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) a Barnard graduate and a Wall Street worker, Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) an FBI trainee at Quantico after attending Yale, and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) now an acclaimed novelist.

They had all significantly grown and changed during this time as they built their own lives away from Riverdale.

Veronica had got married and Jughead was in a rocky relationship which seemed to have ended.

Archie and Betty were both now single and inevitably ended up getting together after they gave into their passions, something which had been left unfulfilled since high school.

Fans of the couple known as ‘Barchie’ will now see this romance finally come into fruition.

Going by the timeline, Archie and his friends are now aged around 24 or 25-years-old, depending on their birthdays.

They are now fully-fledged adults and this is reflected in how they have changed and facing more grown up problems.

For instance, Jughead is dealing with writer’s block and facing mounting debts with collectors chasing him.

Betty is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder from her ordeal with serial killer TBK.

Veronica has her own share of marital problems with her husband Chadwick Gekko (Chris Mason) after he says he wants them to start a family after a near-fatal helicopter crash.

She also has to deal with the dynamics in her marriage to Chad, who is jealous and possessive.

Chad has always felt inferior to Veronica, who is a better trader than him and consistently outperformed him.

Speaking in a behind-the-scene video, actress Reinhart reflected on the time jump, saying: “So far as the seven-year jump into the future, it’s really exciting to see these characters that we’ve known and come to love for four seasons now move into adulthood and see them at a different part of their lives.

“Betty is working at the FBI. She’s still a trainee but she’s working her way up. You find out that Betty went through something quite traumatic that has take its toll on her mental health and has given her PTSD.

“But you see her kind of grappling with what she’s gone through and trying to push past it and be the strong woman that she is.”

Mendes also spoke about the change in the show, saying: “In the time jump we see a she-Wolf of Wall Street side of Veronica. She’s kind of evolved into this business woman.

“We see sort of traces of Hermione a little bit in that she’s sort of compromised in her marriage.

“Her husband really wants her to stay at home and start working towards starting a family. Veronica just wants to work.”
