Riverdale teases ‘next steps’ for controversial Betty and Archie romance in David Lynch-inspired episode – The Sun

RIVERDALE has teased the "next steps" in the controversial relationship between Archie and Betty in the David Lynch-inspired episode.

The synopsis and episode title hint things are going to get weird, as they pull on the surreal style of the Twin Peaks director.

The episode, Chapter Seventy-Five: Lynchian, is set to develop the Archie and Betty romance that has divided fans too.

The summary reads: "Jughead (Cole Sprouse) and Charles (guest star Wyatt Nash) follow a new lead after the contents of the latest videotape takes a sinister turn.

"Meanwhile, Kevin (Casey Cott), Reggie (Charles Melton) and Fangs (guest star Drew Ray Tanner) take their latest business venture to the next level, while Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) and Veronica's (Camila Mendes) maple rum business faces a new threat.

"Finally, Archie (KJ Apa) and Betty (Lili Reinhart) contemplate their next steps."

Riverdale divided fans during its musical episode when it was revealed Betty and Archie were hooking up – despite them being with Veronica and Jughead respectively.

The couple have been dubbed 'Barchie' because fans had always wanted them to get together, but it seems they didn't want it to happen because of cheating.

One fan wrote on Twitter: “There is no coming back from this cheating storyline. Even if the characters forgive each other I will just be angry the whole time knowing this s*** happened.”

But not everyone was mad with one viewer writing: “I don’t care, I’m taking this as a victory. I am ready for Barchie.

“Is it wrong how they’re doing it? Yes. But do I enjoy the juice? Of course I do.”

It's not only viewers who have been shipping Barchie but also some of the Riverdale stars themselves.

Casey Cott who plays Betty's best friend Kevin, really wanted the two to get together.

He told TVLine: “I feel like however I answer this question, there are going to be hundreds of people outside my home egging it.

“I kind of like the idea of Archie and Betty getting together. They haven’t been able to explore that.

Riverdale is based on the Archie comics which are well known for the famous love triangle between Archie, Betty and Veronica.
