Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) entered the Rovers Return pub in Wednesday’s (May 10) edition of Coronation Street, the first time he had done so since Justin Rutherford (Andrew Still) attacked him with acid.
While Ryan has continued his recovery at Carla (Alison King) and Peter’s (Chris Gascoyne) flat, he’s found comfort – and a distraction – in the form of Crystal, the Ibiza club rep he met just days before his life changed forever.
Sadly, we know that Ryan isn’t developing a connection with Crystal – as Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) is the person behind all the texts.
And there have been a lot of texts.
Tonight, Ryan was messaging Daisy for ages.
Recognising that things had gone too far, Daisy tried to convince Ryan that he wasn’t compatible with Crystal by telling him that she wasn’t interested in electronic music – ie, all of the music he used to play during DJ sets – but is really into country.
Daisy’s plan didn’t work, as Ryan ended up confessing that he really likes country songs and wants to fly out to Ibiza to spend time with Crystal as well.
After almost getting caught out with her plan, Daisy accompanied Ryan on a walk and stopped outside the pub.
Still using his trip to Ibiza as motivation, Ryan bravely walked into the pub and ended up playing a game of darts with Debbie (Sue Devaney) and Ronnie (Vinta Morgan).
Because Ryan was surrounded by more members of the public, he had to deal with people’s reactions to the scars on his face.
Every single person responded differently. Debbie, Ronnie and Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) welcomed him back with open arms, a couple of young adults gave Ryan some dodgy looks, and Sarah (Tina O’Brien) soon realised her mistake after failing to actually look at Ryan when she entered.
Heading off home, Ryan returned after realising he had forgotten his phone.
He went to approach Daisy and Daniel (Rob Mallard) in a booth, but overheard Daisy telling her husband that she’s only looking out for Ryan as she feels sorry for him and can’t wait until he’s able to be more independent so she can ‘ditch him’.
Completely devastated, Ryan left the pub in tears, feeling more alone than ever before.
We know that Daisy isn’t being entirely truthful with Daniel (and herself for that matter), as spending so much time with Ryan has caused her feelings for him to resurface.
‘I think, because they have both gone through this very traumatic event that no one else is able to understand, they have got this life-long bond now’, Charlotte Jordan told us recently.
‘I don’t know if it is a genuine romantic connection or whether it is trauma bonding, but they do become very reliant on each other and, especially with Daisy putting off her own recovery and focusing on Ryan, she ends up really needing him in a way that she didn’t intend to.
‘Daisy didn’t go looking for these feelings and they weren’t intentional, she was just trying to take care of Ryan and it sort of snowballs out of control…’.
