David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) has suffered a great deal in Coronation Street as of late, what with wife Shona Ramsey (Julia Goulding) having revealed that she wants a divorce, but he ends up leaving son Max devastated in the coming episodes, as he fail to attend the young man’s speech.
When Shona lost her memory as a result of falling into a coma after the shooting at Christmas, David resolved to stay by her side and get her through this. He had her transferred to a rehab facility in Leeds, and continued to travel back and forth there on a regular basis — something which left him exhausted.
However, matters were complicated further when Shona revealed she no longer wanted David to visit her, and then — not long afterwards — she made clear that she was filing for divorce.
In addition to that, she had been back in touch with villainous son Clayton — whom David believes will manipulate her.
Several weeks back, he found himself in a terrifying situation when he was threatened at knife point.
In the coming episodes, the young man stuffs a ripped t-shirt in the washing machine before Gail (Helen Worth) sees it and asks questions.
Later, he promises Nick (Ben Price) that he’ll see him at Valandros for a family meal, but he falls into a deep sleep.
Later, he awakes and is horrified to realise he’s missed Max’s speech.
Meanwhile, Max delivers his speech at the Outreach Awards, and is disappointed when he sees the empty chair in which David was meant to be sitting.
One to watch: Friday 8 May at 7:30pm on ITV.
