Letitia Dean and Adam Woodyatt have been on EastEnders since the very beginning, and during that time, they’ve featured in a multitude of different storylines.
The Walford legends sit down with Stacey Dooley tonight for the second instalment of Secrets From The Square, and they reminisce about their time on the BBC One soap.
Additionally, they share some interesting backstage gossip, and recall one occasion where they were sent home from set for giggling.
One particular storyline from back in 1986, saw their characters Sharon Watts and Ian Beale join a band — which led to them performing a catchy track, which was so popular, it ended up making its way into the charts!
What song did Sharon and Ian sing in EastEnders?
in 1986, Sharon and Ian joined forces with Simon Wicks (Nick Berry) and his pal Eddie Hunter (Simon Robertson), in addition Kelvin Carpenter (Paul J Medford) and his mate from college Harry Reynolds (Gareth Potter).
Their band — originally entitled Dog Market — wasn’t all that successful, and one occasion, their performance of ‘Venus!’ led to a power cut in The Queen Vic.
With Den (Leslie Grantham) having banned them from singing on the premises, the youths cleverly re-named their group The Banned, and proceeded to write an original song to perform in a competition.
That song was the incredibly catchy Something Outa Nothin’, which viewers saw performed in the soap’s 175th episode — which, coincidentally, is the episode directly after the classic Den and Angie (Anita Dobson) two-hander which re-aired on BBC One last week.
Unfortunately, Harry sabotaged the tape prior to the Banned’s performance, and therefore they were booed off stage and never won the competition.
Afterwards, the Banned split up.
In the real world, the track was written by EastEnders composer Simon May, and reached No. 12 in the UK Charts.
EastEnders: Secrets From The Square continues Monday 29 June at 8pm on BBC One.
