Being socially distant is a little bit easier with Disney’s streaming platform and the help of a few television specials. In light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Disney released their Family Singalong specials and now, fans are wondering if another one is on the way.
Disney released a few ‘Singalong’ television specials during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic
Celebrities singing their favorite Disney songs? It doesn’t get much better than that. In light of the coronavirus pandemic, Disney decided to broadcast a singalong television special, encouraging families to get together to enjoy their favorite songs from the movies. Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, the television special included cameos from Disney actors and celebrities.
Ariana Grande performed “I Won’t Say I’m in Love” from Hercules, Josh Gad and Luke Evans performed “Gaston” from Beauty and the Beast. There was even a surprise appearance and song from The Lion King actor, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.
The second ‘Disney Family Singalong’ brought half the viewers that the first television special did
With the success of the Disney Family Singalong, the company released a second music-filled special on the television network. This one featured other singers and actors, including Keke Palmer, Katy Perry, and Halsey, each of them performing their favorite Disney songs. This one was in support of the nonprofit organization, Feeding America.
“The Disney Family Singalong was a beautiful event that united millions of households across the country, filling our hearts with joy and song, and also providing much-needed nourishment to fill the bellies of our neighbors facing hunger,” Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America, said in a statement.
“An incredible collaborator for nearly a decade, The Walt Disney Company has provided grant funding for network food banks, developed public service announcements, and mobilized the public to help provide the equivalent of almost 100 million meals to children and families. We cannot thank Disney enough for their enduring support,” the statement continued.
According to Variety, the second Disney television special scored a 1.3 rating among adults 18-49 and 5.7 million total viewers. That’s about half the viewers that the original Singalong brought in — The Disney Family Singalong Vol. 1 earned a 2.6 rating and 10.3 million viewers.
Will there be a ‘Disney Family Singalong Vol. 3’ on ABC?
With the Disney Family Singalong Vol. 2 earning half the number of viewers than the first one, it’s pretty unlikely that Disney would swing back around for a third television special. Anything can happen, though, and it all starts with a wish.
There is plenty of Disney content on the company’s streaming platform in the meantime. That includes movies that feature these songs, like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Both of the Disney Singalong television specials are also available for binge-watching (while social distancing) on Disney+. To learn more about Disney’s subscription service, visit their website.
