The latest promo for the fourth season of Yellowstone has given fans their first look at Wendy Moniz returning as Governor Lynelle Perry. Although ranch owner John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) still has a lot on his hands trying to protect his land from his enemies, fans of the Paramount drama are convinced he’ll finally make a commitment to his long-standing love interest.
Governor Perry is set to make her first season four appearance in this week’s episode, Keep the Wolves Close.
In the latest clip of the show, the Governor greets John after arriving on the ranch by car.
Unfortunately, Lynelle is here on business and their brief discussion isn’t as pleasant as their previous meetings.
Perry says to John: “I think the Governor’s office is ready for a new generation of leader.”
John then warns her: “There’s other options. Choose one of them.”
Despite her frosty reception, John and Lynelle are still clearly pleased to see each other.
While John is reluctant to talk business, especially when it concerns his three children, he may be willing to patch things up with his on-again-off-again beau once the matter is settled.
However, Yellowstone’s newest arrival, an animal rights protester named Summer (Piper Perabo) could complicate things.
John and Summer strike up an unlikely friendship when the rancher bails her out after she’s arrested at a protest.
He then takes her on a tour around Dutton Ranch so she can better understand his controversial line of work.
Many fans believe Summer is keen on taking her relationship with John further, but others aren’t so sure.
When the new clip was posted to Instagram, some viewers took to the comments to speculate what Lynelle’s return to the ranch could mean for John.

IG user sandrabarckholtz insisted: “She’s a much better fit for John.”
Katcleo81 agreed and replied: “Certainly better than the political activist he picked up last week.
“She’ll do nothing but cause trouble for John; especially after her little confrontation with Beth.”
Some of John and Summer’s recent exchanges certainly suggest the unconventional pair could eventually become more than just friends.
However, Lynelle has been a consistent love interest for John since Yellowstone’s first season, even if the ageing cowboy has been reluctant to commit.
“Tdagenhart_realtor added: “I love John and the Governor together!! They fit well!”
And yoselinuzcategui24 commented: “John, the governor is the perfect woman for you, she is also intelligent.”
Summer has already proven a divisive addition to the cast, but it looks like John and Lynelle could revive their relationship before she has time to cause more trouble on the ranch.
Yellowstone season four continues Sundays on Paramount.
