Baby is found dead at London property: Police are treating death as ‘unexpected’

  • Officers are now treating the death as ‘unexpected and under investigation’

Police are treating the death of a baby as ‘unexpected’ after the child’s body was found at a property in east London yesterday. 

Met Police were called at 7:40pm on Tuesday to a property on Mimosa Close, in Havering, following reports for concerns of the welfare of a baby.

Officers discovered the body of the baby and are now treating the death as ‘unexpected and under investigation’.

The force said that a cordon remains in place at the address and it is not yet clear when this will be lifted. 

It added that enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

The Met Police said: ‘At approximately 19:40hrs on Tuesday, 22 August police were called to an address in Mimosa Close, Havering following reports for concerns of the welfare of a baby.

‘Officers attended. The body of a baby was located. At this time the death is being treated as unexpected and under investigation. 

‘A scene remains in place at the address. Enquiries into the circumstances continue.’
