‘You can stuff your job’: Furious bus driver quits mid-shift leaving passengers locked in and stranded on side of the road
- A Go North East driver stormed off mid-shift between Durham and Newcastle
- Riders were locked inside the bus but managed to flag down another service
Startled passengers were left stranded and locked inside a double decker bus this week as a driver quit mid-shift.
The Go North East employee shouted ‘you can stuff your job’ after slamming the brakes and storming out on route 21 from Durham to Newcastle on Wednesday, reports claim.
Riders were then left struggling to open the doors from inside as the unnamed driver locked them before disappearing into the night near the Angel of the North.
Eventually, those aboard managed to free themselves by randomly pressing a series of buttons and flagging down another service.
‘People on board did not know what was going on, then we realised the driver was not coming back,’ one passenger said following the incident.

Liam Brian Kenny, who was also aboard the bus, shared on Facebook: ‘Go North East, your bus driver on this bus tonight has just left the bus at the Angel and stormed off. Locking the bus with people on it.’
Mr Kenny also alleged that the driver said ‘you can stuff your job’ during the ordeal.
It currently remains unclear why the bus driver quit mid-shift, though Go North East confirmed the incident did take place.
The firm, which provides around 175,000 bus journeys everyday, also vowed to investigate issue in line with its ‘internal procedures’.
‘We clearly can’t condone the actions of this driver and I will ensure that the issue is investigated and dealt with according to our internal procedures,’ it said.
‘We can only apologise to any customers who were inconvenienced by this event.’
